This guy is giving me an amazing deal on a car cause he is supposedly being sent away for the marines and needs the car sold now. But it seems almost too good to be true so I am kind of suspicious of it. The only thing I think is that it might be stolen. Does anyone know a sure way to make sure that it's not? Can I call in the license plate or VIN number into the police or something to check??? Or anything else I can do? Thanks.

First of all, make sure that the seller's name (ask to see his driver's license) is the same as the name on the title. Never buy a car from someone who is not titled owner or a licensed dealer. (A legitimate dealer will be happy to show you his dealer license)

You can then take the VIN to any local law enforcement agency. Tell them that you are considering buying the vehicle, and would like them to run the VIN to see if it is stolen. They can not give you any owner's information, but they will be able to run it in their database, and through NCIC to see if it has been reported stolen.

Your state's Department of Transportation or DMV will be able to run the VIN. Check to make sure the VIN in the windscreen matches the VIN in the door jam. You can call the dealership that sells that make of car and ask where the engine VIN is and any other places.
A person can change the VIN in the windscreen and even the door jam, but all over would no be very cost/profit effective.
