My pups are under a week old?? How often is it advisable to take them away from the mother so she can rest? I don't want to do any damage to their relationship, I just want my dog to get some rest, is it okay for them to be apart for a while?? And if so, how long??

Relax, mom will get the rest she needs when the pups are all sleeping, this would also be a good time to feed her and let her out. I wouldn't advise taking them away from her at all at this age, she will instinctively do what she must on her own. If you have more questions, I would call her vet, he can probably tell you better than anyone here what she needs and when she might need it.

Yah, Mom has it all in hand. She gets sleep when she can and food and water when she can. Giving birth to puppies and raising them is very stressful and takes a lot from the mother. But this has been happening since the beginning.

She probably wouldnt like it much if you took her puppies away, even out of sight. She will rest easiest knowing they are safe and cared for right by her side.

I think the best thing to do is just give her love and support and let her know you are there for her. Depending on your relationship up to now she will know in her doggie mind how far she is willing to trust a mere human to care for her little babies.

When they start venturing from the nest, as it were you will have plenty of time to care for a watch out for the little sweethearts.

The less you disturb mom and her puppies, the better. Don't let any outsiders touch them either. They could be carrying germs or illnesses and the puppies could get them. If mom has had her shots, the puppies will get most of their immunities from her. If she hasn't, they are very vulnerable. Right now, mom knows best and humans need to leave them alone. Mom will do just fine and she will rest between feedings. For the first two to three weeks, the less human handling the better. Of course, we all can't resist a kiss and a cuddle now and then but at this early stage, it should be hands off.

IF you don't know the answer to that question what are you doing letting her breed. THere are enough dogs in the world being put down everyday because there are to many dogs and not enough home. You backyard breeders are the main cause of the overpopulation of dogs. Give the world and your dog a break and get her spayed.

quite often by removing the pups it actually gives mom more stress.they get upset when the pups "disappear."
Just as long as she can leave them on her own. She will also get rest when they are sleeping.
