Who says it couldn't happen in the UK?
Only a few months ago did Bristol airport not have the same problems with a newly resurfaced runway not being grooved enough for drainage? Planes were sliding all over the place on landing and several airlines stopped using it for quite a few days.
Ultimately the responsibility for handling the aircraft in the air or on the ground has to be with the pilots, and if they were uneasy about using the Brazilian airport they should have stood together and stopped using it until satisfied.
A terrible disaster that surely was totally avoidable.

the air crash in brazil maybe due to pilot error or the runway fault as it is also similar to the Garuda air crash in Indonesia of a Boeing 737-400 as the aeroplane overshot the runway too.

No one listened and yes it could happen in the UK, not necessarily because of a short runway, but mechanical/pilot error. We have had air crashes in the past.

This is an exceptionally busy airport in a poor country. It is a bit short but in comparison to the state of many of the planes in operation in South America (usually elderly, dodgy units from South East Asia), it is within their accepted limits of safety. I would not be too smug about safety issues in the UK. The skies over London are far and away the most crowded in Europe and, with the terrible record of UK computer systems, a bad accident cannot be far away.

i think it could happen in the UK too. it's been terrible news about the plane crash though with nobody surving and people on the ground dead too.
i do hope they change something now but for the people that died in this plane crash it's too late!
