What are your views on whether we have a gene that determines our ability to believe in a god or not?

There does seem to be a genetic predisposition to being religious, but I doubt that a single gene is responsible for that.

Studies with identical twins, separated at birth and reared apart suggest quite strongly that when reunited at adulthood, these twins often share "religiousness" (if you know what I mean).

Idiots claim that ignorance breeds religion when in fact there are many brilliant people who have faith in some religion or another.

Everyone has their own personal level of what evidence is necessary for "proof" to be established. This does not have any bearing on intelligence.

As far as a gene goes... I don't think so, unless there is a gene that controls a person's limit of evidence. In which case I would agree, but I am not a genetic scientist.

No such thing beliefs are learned maybe there are genes that makes some a little more intelligent but that doesn't guarantee they are exposed to the knowledge they need to think well. The responcibility is to pass on the best real information from one generation to the next .

Edit.
I remember that article in Time magazine. It's possible, seems like humans wind up worshipping something even if no god is involved. People can wind up worshipping celebrities, artists, educators, their friends, family members, lovers, so it's quite possible that there is some gene that drives humans to find fulfillment in the act of worship.

Heh. This is my view, peon.
We all share genetic ancestry with a female, 150,000 years ago, and one male, 60,000 years ago. Africa. Women are perfect. Men are the ones who need saving.

To say someone is predisposed to superstition is a polite way to say they lack intelligence.
