I personally have no problems with them. Anything that helps in an emergency is a good thing no? I have used First Responders occasionally to help me when I've got someone really ill on board - extra pair of hands always useful. I know mananagement love them because it provides an extra resource which can lower response times and help achieve government standards. However, I know a lot of staff who can stand them. I only assume its because they feel threatened. First resps only have limited training, but I still feel that when needed - every pair of hands is a godsend.

For the most part, we all feel like we will take extra hands no matter what. If you are having an issue with your ambulance service, try pulling a few aside and asking them specifically what you can do to help them out.

They may really need certain things to be done, that never get done etc. You gotta work together......
