If you consume much of it...yes. One thing that sugar does do is hinder your white blood cells from fighting off infection.

Sugar in a purified form is quickly released in your blood stream. This will cause your pancreas to release much insulin which will wipe all the sugar off your blood and will make you craving for more sugar. The cycle will go on like this. The best way to consume sugar is to take less than we usually do, eat it after a meal so that it is not quickly absorbed and try to take it in a complex form like mixed with fiber in fruits. If you drink juice or soda drinks on an empty stomach it will be absorbed quickly, avoid this.

If you are consuming too much, yes it is. With eating too much sugar, you will get used to eating like this and will be hard to change habits later in life, which could lead to being overweight or diabetes.

Sugar is essential to your body because it produces energy for your body to burn. But over essesive could be damaging to your body. Regulate your sugar intake, perhaps if you really love sweet stuff, take honey instead.
