no longer immediately. yet whilst sexual abuse interior the Catholic Church is statistically greater undemanding than sexual abuse in distinctive places the place mum and dad depart their toddlers in have confidence, then meaning that there is a few thing systemically incorrect with the way the Catholic Church hires and/or instructs clergymen that reasons an improve in pedophilia. you're nicely suited that there should not be a witch hunt over this - if there grow to be, it would not be the 1st time a good sized pedophilia scare has resulted interior the incrimination of an atrocious form of harmless adult men (e.g. the daycare scare of the Nineteen Eighteen Eighties). yet whilst there's a systemic problem, then it particularly is no longer ok for the Church leaders to ignore approximately it, the two.

I think the abuse is vile and disgusting and very disappointing as these men were to be men of God. The media, however is playing this up even more then it really is:
1) most of the abuse cases took place decades ago.
2) most are only allegations & can't be proven.
The percentage of actual abuse cases in the denomination is smaller then any other - that against, teachers, relatives, other denominations.... it's just that the Rcc is getting the press becuase they are the easiest to pick on for they don't fight back - more mainstream Christian denominations don't.
what people aren't seeing is that this took place a long time ago and the Rcc isn't trying to avoid the issue - it's usually the victims rights that are being protected. being a victim of abuse by a relative, there is NO WAY i would want anything publicized.
edit - marriage has NOTHING to do with pedophiles - look how many are gown MARRIED men..... please people think before you speak.

You have a point but the Catholic church is dogmatic and slow to change expecially from biblical scripture so why not do as most and let your conscience be your guide not everything in any organization is always going to be perfect.
Just take the good from the good from the churches and use your best judgment for what you don't agree with .

As a Catholic I am satisfied that the Catholic church has done everything it possibly could do.The majority of the priests that I came across were excellent people. There will always be wolves in sheep's clothing and the innocent will suffer for the guilty.

I'm not Catholic, though I think I can reasonably say that nobody on Earth find this kind of thing acceptable. And it's most unfortunate that those entrusted with a position and of power and influence would abuse those under their power and influence. Allah (God) knows best!

I am Catholic, pro choice, and pro gay marriage. Both my father and aunt were sexually abused by priests, so I know the pain it causes, and I think that eventually the evil that hides behind the cross will have its comeuppance.
*Allowing priests to marry will not solve the problem. Evil is found everywhere. Do you really think that there aren't millions of married child abusers? That's almost as absurd as the idea that prostitution prevents rape.

They are showing humility by not boasting of their sins....
There is not just Catholic priests who molest...I am sure the percentage of molestors in the protestant church is about the same(14% some reports say)...

Fortunately, for those of us deeply entrenched in the faith, we were warned in the 1860's or so, when "Our Lady of La Salette" appeared, with grave warnings for the next century. "beware of who you allow into your convent/monastery." etc.

So when I hear about this sort of thing, I feel so bad for the victims, and a cold burn for the perpetrators, yet it was already predicted long ago. Someone somewhere allowed this in like rot into the wood.
