What is the first thing everyone did when they left a high control group such as the JW's or any other religious group that put rules and restrictions on it's members? If you are thinking of leaving religion what do you dream of doing? ie: Getting drunk as a skunk. Doing it with a random person in public or maybe your on a mission to save everyone from the clutches of religious groups? Maybe it is just as simple as sleeping in on a Sunday morning? What did you enjoy the most?

Personally I enjoyed listening to what ever music I want without having to worry about the lyrics!

well, I fornicated, shot up heroin, robbed a liquor store, played with a ouija board and went to see an R-rated movie. I was SO busy!

but seriously, I didn't do any of those things. Well, ok, I did see "Bachelor Party".. but mainly, I just breathed.. that's what I did.

I got r-i-p-p-e-d, D-R-U-N-K for the first time ever 2 days after I left. The first 2 days were such one of those high on life experiences that I did not think of anything but that good feeling. Then I said you know what the hell? It's Friday night. So I called some guys from work and asked if they wanted to go out. We did and man was that just one of those nights I will never forget. i was finally living like a normal person. The next afternoon when I finally woke up in one of my buddies pick-up truck bed I felt like I got smashed in the head by a bulldozer. Still I would never forget that night. Man was that awesome.

Unfortunately, I went off the deep end, started smoking, went to alot of bars-drinking like a fish, got involved in drugs and other immoral behavior. Fortunately, God's grace called me back to my senses. Now, my focus is on helping others escape the clutches of the JW cult.

I really enjoy sleeping in on Saturday mornings still, not having to wake up early and knock on doors. I still enjoy witnessing about God's grace, Jesus, and making disciples of Jesus. I just realize now that I don't have to annoy people the way I use to.

Edit: I also registered to vote and have voted in every election since. I divorced my elder husband, remarried to a Freemason and who plays Santa Claus for our community.
I have also celebrated EVERY holiday possible.

Jehovah's Witnesses are certainly NOT a "high control group" and certainly do not invent arbitrary rules and regulations for members.

A practicing Jehovah's Witness may 'listen to "what ever" [sic] music he wants without having to worry' about some punishment from his congregation. Similarly, many current Witnesses occasionally "sleep in on a Sunday morning".

Admittedly, it does seem prudent to be both selective in one's choice of music and regular in attendance at Christian meetings. Jehovah's Witnesses are not unique in suggesting such wise practices.

Perhaps this questioner should be reminded that Jehovah's Witnesses simply work to live by the principles and commands of God's Word the Bible.

Drunkenness and promiscuity will never be tolerated by true Christians (such as Jehovah's Witnesses). Ironically, such things never lead to true happiness, but only lead away...

(Ezekiel 23:33) With drunkenness and grief you will be filled

(Acts 15:20) Abstain from things polluted by idols and from fornication and from what is strangled [the meat of which would contain blood] and from blood.

I got really, really REALLY, angry...and I am still angry at the WATS...I lost my childhood and 22 years to those controlling manipulative cult leaders......

Many many witnesses are still enslaved to that false doctrine, and may lose their very souls over it.

i did what pedi-c says she did but didn't do!...lol...Not the heroin

I have a prediction that soon you will change your name

Take a nice deep breath. Thinking for yourself yet? Good. Keep it up.

If it were me, I say that all are good options, as long as you don't make bad choices (no drunk driving, use protection, no country music)

When I left the LDS/Mormon church, I looked up to see if there were any ex-mormon groups nearby to help me cope.
