It is safe to install, but know this. If you need more power to your system a second battery won't resolve the situation, a high output alternator is the answer along with the BIG 3 upgrade. A second battery will give you just more playing time when the car is OFF. The real power source of the car when running is the alternator, then it charges the battery in your case it would have to charge an extra battery, the car's electrical system (about 60% of the power supplied from the alt.) and the audio system, thus will cause the alternator to fry due to overloading with time.

It's actually a safer installation with the battery in the trunk (factory location) than it would be with the battery near the engine. You don't have to run the power wire through the firewall, so you eliminate the possibility of a short circuit there.
As always, be sure to put a properly sized fuse on your amp's power wire, within a few inches of the battery connection.

Electhro, while your information is correct, I don't think it applies here. He doesn't have a second battery in the trunk; his original factory battery is located in the trunk. This is becoming more common for many vehicles as space in the engine compartment is hard to find.

Yup perfectly safe.... Some new cars come like that now... not sure why but its better than the old chrystlers having it in the bottom of the engine bay.
