Which is best. I have been using Frontline Plus on my pup but am thinking about trying K9 Advantix because of the mosquitoes.

Here is a nice chart that quickly compares some of the most popular flea preventatives (you'll have to scroll down, the chart is at the bottom of the page). http://www.dog.com/flea.asp?Category=Flea%20%26%20Tick

1) neither frontline or advantix has ever been recalled
2) revolution is not as effective for heartworm as a monthly oral preventative
Advantix, Frontline, and Revolution are all pretty good for fleas, though in my experience Frontline seems to be most effective. It also lasts the longest in clinical tests. Advantix can leave an oily residue, and I've occasionally seen hair loss where the Advantix was applied. Both seem to happen more often in short-haired dogs. If ticks are a problem where you live, then definitely Frontline would be best, it's the most effective at killing multiple species of ticks. Advantix is the only one that repels mosquitoes, so if you live near water, it may be worth it for you. The mosquito protection wears off after 3 weeks though, and you definitely still need to use oral heartworm preventative with Advantix. Rotating flea products is a good idea if you're not worried about ticks, because then the fleas are less likely to become resistant to one particular product.

Advantix also protects against the phlebotomus bite (a type of mosquito), which causes leishman's disease, a very serious disease. I don't know if you have that disease a lot over there, but in the Mediterranean we must use Advantix in the summer months.

I brought my dog to the vet and asked the same question and he recommended that I alternate them out. Use one for 3 months and the other for 3 months and so on. The reason for this was because of the fleas being so bad at the time he said it would prevent an immunity build up. I would just ask your vet and see what they recommend for the area your living in.

Frontine Plus is the only thing I have ever used and it has worked fine for all three of my german shepherds.

I wouldn't recommend either. Revolution has come to have a much better reputation and has yet to be recalled. You also don't need a separate heartworm preventative.

You should talk to your vet about it.
