How can I know the answer to that before it happens? I have been asked to renounce my loyalty to a friend or face difficulty on the job, so I can say that I remained loyal there. I have not been given this other ultimatum, though, and cannot say how I would respond.

I would hope that I had the courage to do the right thing and die. But, in that situation, people do not react from logic or intellect- their emotions puch them. Somebody in that predicament that takes the easy way out and renounces their faith- who can blame them, it is always easy to be brave when not faced with being in that situation!

For a Christian, to renounce our faith IS to face death.
"Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell."

I am a Wiccan Witch, If my children were grown i would stand by my beliefs.
But since my babies are young, i would say anything, to stop me from being killed and just do as my ancestors did and practice in secret.
I would never in either situation, change my beliefs.

People who are willing to resort to murder over such petty foolishness deserve to be lied to.
