I see all of these giant SUV's and 8 cylinder sports cars all over and they're going 35 mph with one person in the car. There's no reason that people shouldn't get gas guzzlers because it makes them feel more important and if they can afford it, there's no reason not to. I say we should raise gas prices up to $5 a gallon and take the extra $2 per gallon and use it to start more federal wildlife preserves, so at least someone good can come from it. Who's with me?

Where I live 80% of the land is National Forest that was stolen by the government. Just how much more land do you think we need? If you've ever flown or driven across the country you would know just how much empty land there really is.

We will probably discover that Oil is inexaustible. Oil is coming from deep within the earth. It is reasonable to think that the earth is still producing oil. The core of the earth is still very hot and the process that created oil could still be going on.

If gas prices were raised to $5 a gallon, I think the extra money should go toward improving public transportation like railroads. I don't think that raising gas prices would cause a lot of people to drive less. Minimum wage would go up and prices in general would go up, too, and the high price of gas would be the scapegoat. Maybe there should be huge taxes on gas guzzlers.

That's the dumbest thing in the world. Just because there are rich idiots out there that can afford to drive their big suv's and trucks all over and not have to worry about the gas prices...your saying we should raise the gas prices so that ppl like me whom aren't that rich and I pay $60 as it is to fill up to get my kids to daycare and me to work...we should suffer because someone else is an idiot. That the dumbest thing I have heard. Sorry but you may not understand where I'm coming from. Here the gas prices are already at $3.52 a gallon of unleaded. It's ridiculous. The rest of America shouldn't have to suffer for those who don't give a damn.

I don't think they would have to if they taxed aviation fuel.

Wouldn't help to build a preserve if the animals are dead. Plants trees and putting a fence around it doesn't make a "habitat".

Though a tax structure that would only tax a landowner if the land was "developed" or in any way changed from its natural state would be a great incentive. Even if a mine runs under your property you would be responsible to pay land tax to the government, and the mining company would be responsible to pay you double the land tax.

Whoa, you shop that idea around and I'll vote for you in a California minute!

I drive a gas-conscious smaller car and I cringe when I fill up after a sharp increase in gas prices. I can't imagine why more SUV owners don't drive like saints to try to boost their milage, but instead they seem to drive like they own the road and there's no tomorrow.

I might get lots of thumbs down for this, but I do ONLY if we have very specific plans what to do with the additional taxes. If we use them for helping get us independent from foreign oil, I would be in favor of it. Without this plan, I'm against it.

oh helllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll NO.

That would cause war where I'm from. I understand where you're coming from but you have to understand the ones who have the civic. Toyota etc. They should raise it for the ones who own more that five hundred thousand.

You know what. I think if you really care that much about that then you can go ahead. But NO. Gas is high enough as it is... Especially with all of the taxes we have to pay... They take enough out our paychecks... At the rate they take from our pay checks gas should be free -_-;

You are insane...I think you work for the gas company or something. Gas prices are too high already. If they went up to $5 a gallon i'd sell my car and buy a bike and abus pass. I'm barely able to afford my rent, bills, and college. That would break me. So again I say that you are insane.
