1st. Check some of my "starred question's". There has been many discussion's on night-fishing recently.
2nd. What type of lures or bait are you using?
3rd. At first "dark",(when it finally get's completely "dark"), fish usually need 1-2 hours to change over into "night-hunting" mode. In "jet-black" darkness they rely heavily on there sense of smell and "lateral line",(kinda like our "ear's). It takes them a while to adjust to "the night".
IMHO, go fishing right before "dark". After it get's "jet black", leave and come back later, (1-2 hours). OR start your nightfishing around 11:30-12 and fish til 6 am. Your "peak" hours will be 3:30 and 5:30 am.
Best lures for night-fishing Bass, Northern's,Crappie:
#1 Spinnerbait's in 1/8-1/4 sizes. Gold (darker colored) Colorado/indiana blades and "darker" skirt's & trailer's. "Slow-rolling".
#2 Swimming/Ribbon-tailed worms in darker color's. "Slow swimming".
#3 Floating Rapala's in darker color's. "Slow swimming".
It's important to note that repeated cast's to the same structure/area helps. And a "slow, constant" retrieve helps too!
Hope this info helps ya? Go see my "Starred Q" for further info! Good luck!

One lure can be used for all three fish at night and that is the buzz bait! For bass I use my 1/8 to 1/4 oz with small pork frogs and for pike and musky I use 1/2 to 3/8 oz baits in black or blue!
I fish weed line edges, drops, docks anywhere there is a shallow to deep water break!I buzz the lily pads hard and heavy too!I likw to use in line buzz baits at night the most but use both types.
I do use other lures but these 3 are proven lures for night fishing for all 3 fish!

Bass will move shallower undercover ready to ambush on prey. Pike will move to 6-8 feet and stay still on the bottom, until something tantalizing goes by. You need something topwater to trigger 'em. Cant help you with muskie but they are similar to pike.

Use the biggest topwater lure you can find and tie it on with a steel leader. Any big bass or muskie will hit it if they are there and you arent fishing in the dead sea.

bass love looking in to light.....try a white painted pier or a light thats right on the bank of the river....Fish look into the light to see the bait fish. Even the slightest moonlight is multiplied over the water so a bright colored pier is someting to look for as well as a light source.

During the day they hide near trees and under lily pads. Then at night they go into more open water and allot of them jump to get food that's why its easier to catch them. If your having trouble catching stuff try ether top water Poppers or Proppers and black blue flake Yamamoto Senkos witch are fake worms. When using ether of these just cast and twitch it Little when you slowly reel it in.

a dark colored spinner bait with a large colorado blade usually or some type of top water like a jitterbug or hula poper usually works fine, most of the time they'll be heading for the shallow water to feed on bait fish and crabs. good luck
