If even one penny of whay I tythe goes to the defense, the feeding, the clothing, the housing, the sexual abuse insurance (thats right they have it), the cars, the water and wine of any Priest or to pay off their victims of their abuse that would make me and every other parishioner an accomplise don't you think? I can not give anymore because I can't contribute to funding pedophiles or to protect them. I am a christian and believe in Jesus but will not jeopordize the children in any way.
As a Catholic do you still give and protect Priest pedophiles? A lot of priest have done this, not all. How many is OK in your book? 100 victims by 10 priest. 1000 by a hundred.
There were only 714 cases of child abuse by priest in 2006 down from 783 in 05.
Is that number ok to still give money to the church?

Sorry...
So 17 under 18 years old is OK?
I wish parish goers accepted a zero tolerance policy.
I am so done with organized religion. Waste of time and money! there are so many other venues to help the poor, the sick and hungry. You can still believe in whatever and help out in other ways than being Catholic.

This just goes to show ya!
You are hypocrites you say your not but you are.If you don't stand for child abuse committed by the church. Then why are you so worried about giving them money?
I mean like if I was like you I would get out of the church all together. What they are doing is giving you a bad name.Like WAKE-UP.
CONGRATULATIONS you've seen the light.

Okay, I've had enough of these questions. NO, not all priests sexually molest their parishioners. The money taken in the collection does not support those priests who have been ejected from the church because of sexual abuse either, either. Seriously, when a priest is found guilty of sexual abuse of any kind, from present day to 40+ years ago, they are cut off from the church; they don't even get their pension/retirement monies, etc. if they were within a few years of it. They get nothing. You're right, the money doesn't really go to the poor, at least as I see it. But I belong to a modest church with not a lot of parishioners and moderate wealth. However, the church does raise money and help the community and its people with fun raisers, etc. You have a real close minded attitude about Catholicism if you think that all priests are child molesters. We're in a time where if a priest does touch someone in an objectionable way, I would believe anyone would run to their family and/or the police and report it. If all priests were child molesters, then we wouldn't have any more priests and no more churches. Doesn't that seem to make any sense? People these days just don't understand how very devout persons can pledge their life to a God that others don't believe in and stay celibate to keep their bodies pure for God. Now yes, some priests and holy persons cannot fight the sexual urges we all get from time to time and go and molest a parishioner; but it isn't each and every priest. As far as the money from the collections goes, there isn't a child molester priests fund that the better part of it goes to. I'll double check just to indulge your ignorance, but I HIGHLY doubt it.

You misread the stats. 714 is the number of cases REPORTED in the United States in 2006, the vast majority of which happened DECADES ago. Only 17 of the people who came forward with complaints last year were under age 18.

My father stopped tithing as soon as the first case hit the news. Instead he started giving to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. I have always done the same thing. I like to pick organizations I feel strongly about and donate my money where I know it will be the most beneficial. For the past couple years, this has expanded to holidays and gift-giving. We always look for merchandise like St. Judes, product (RED) or Tom's shoes. Everytime we give a gift, we know that we are helping others as well.

I appreciate your feelings, but even Jesus had his Judas.
This is a terribly hurtful and frustrating matter for all of us, but the church must go on.
Protest to your bishop. Keep a close eye on the priests in your own parish. Become more personally and actively involved in parish life.
It will do you good, too.
If anyone gives you any trouble, stand on Canon Law 212:
Canon 212.3 states: "According to the knowledge, competence, and prestige which they possess, [the faithful] have the right and even the duty to manifest to the sacred pastors their opinion on matters which pertain to the good of the Church and to make their opinion known to the rest of the Christian faithful, without prejudice to the integrity of the faith and morals, with reverence toward their pastors, and attentive to common advantage and the dignity of persons."
If more people had done this after Vatican II, this "mess" may never have happened.

There are pedophiles everywhere there are children. In the Boy Scouts, schools, police , Military, Congress, and around every tree. Just peak and see! So blame everyone for this type of crime that does it , not just the Catholic Church.

Listen, the Catholic church has so much money, they don't need yours. If you want to tithe, give to a community charity. The money does not need to go to the church. Heh, in many ways Christianity is so socialist eh? Ironic that there are so many right winged christians.

Zero tolerance = Zero money. I just can't believe that Jesus would have anything to do with an organization like that. Can you imagine being Jesus and having the Catholic church representing you?

I would say stop giving money period . And get out of the Catholic church. Go to one that believes in Jesus so you can tithe in peace. (That's no to say there aren't pedophiles everywhere.) But that would solve your moral problem.
