Hello everyone! I just wanted to ask you all a question if I may. I work around a lot of men and woman that were once or still are in the Military. I have this friend that has been telling me that they'll be deployed for a total of two years which is something that I've never heard of. When I asked the Military young men and women that I work with they said that at the most has deployed young men and woman for no more than a year and a few months. But when I asked her again she still stuck to her story of two years. Is she lying?

Reservists can very well be mobilized for 2 years: 12-15 months in the sandbox, with a few months before hand to train and a few weeks afterwards to demobilize. total time could easily be 24 months or more.

Ok i think the army deploys for one year at a time. Ive never heard of 2 year deployments. If someone were to deploy for that long the gov't would have to pay them some good amounts of money. Im a Marine. the longest ive deployed was 8 months cuz of the "surge". Ive known people who have extended 3 months with the replacing unit, then returned back to our unit once those 3 months were up. She might have spent 2 years in Iraq during her whole career, but i doubt it was one single deployment.

When I was deployed in 1990, it was for 6 months (originally), but was extended 6 more months after wards.

I've heard of people doing up to a year and a half now days.

I'm surprised that noone has picked up the Stars and Stripes. You friend has to be Army. They have upped their deployment to 15 months now. With the upcoming election though, commanders are planning on staying in country at least 18 months. The outcome of the election has everything to do with it.
So she's not lying at all.

First let me just say that different specialties are needed in support of the Armed Services overseas.
That being said, some specialties are needed more then others and depending on the specialty you could be sent to Iraq for 3 or more months. Some units are on a different cycle because of the job that they do.

Hope that helps.

Well, our current deployment cycle is at 15 months, but that is not uncommon to be extended to 18 months in theater. If she's counting pre deployment training done possibly at NTC in cali, and/or more training done on an active duty base, it could total to 24 months, but like I said, that all won't be spent in theater.

If they are reservists it could work like this: 1 year in country

with time before deployment, training, equipping, and preparing for deployment. Then several months after deployment spend redeploying and getting all their stuff taken care of.

Basically, they could be under orders for 2 years, but only spend one in country

No. Your friend is lying.

Maximum is 1 year, unless layed over towards end of deployment.

Minimum is 4 to 6 months in the sand box or on a boat.

Every one has to do it.
