I am the only user on my ubuntu setup and yet it says........?

I just setup ubuntu for the first time and it is saying I don't have permission to do anything in the directory and when I go under the file browser and try to edit the permissions it says I am not the owner and so I can't change anything....what's up with that and how do I change it.

u need to log in as root to edit the filesystem. go to login window options, and check log in as admin. and change the root user password, then u can log in as root and edit everything

You can use su and sudo to execute the commands as root (just do man su or man sudo for information on usage).
