YES!!!!!

I worked in a shelter for victims of physical abuse - men, women, children and the elderly - training volunteers and staff how to help people who have been physically, emotionally and mentally abused. Sex or size doesn't matter. Boys are generally raised that it's not okay to hit girls or fight back, so they usually don't.

It is "rare" ONLY because men don't seek help and are therefore uncounted for statistical purposes. Men don't seek help because of embarassment, shame, etc. They are embarrassed for many reasons, but the reason I witnessed most often is that most of the people who seek services are women and that makes guys even more uncomfortable. Men are abused just like women.

Also, if he hits her back, it is likely that she will call the police on him and he will be the one arrested and charged.

It's twisted, but that is my actual experience. Keep being his friend and don't give up on him no matter how frustrating it gets. It will take time if this is what is happening to him. Find local services by contacting your county's States Attorney's office or the phone book. Services that can be provided include counseling, legal assistance in getting a court order to keep her away, documenting the abuse, safety plans, how to protect his assets and more.

He won't leave her until he has had enough. He will probably deny it. That is true regardless of gender. My concern for your friend, other than his safety, would be documenting what she does to him. It has to be documented by a third party like a hospital, doctor or someone from a local program. This has to be done for many reasons, but it is also to protect him from being called the "abuser" and being charged. All he has to do is fight back one time.

I am a girl by the way. Abuse is an equal opportunity destroyer.

This is a serious problem because men hardly ever report it, and if the police are called they immediately side with the woman. Size doesn't matter, but you'd believe a large woman was beat up by a small guy long before you'd believe that a large guy was beat up by a small woman. Try to get him talking. He could be going through hell.

it is very possible for a woman to abuse a man. size doesn't matter if the other person isn't defending himself...but i warn you, because of the physical difference, we know it is very possible for him to stop her, but there are some psychological and emotional barriers in this equation. it is quite possible that if u attempt to interfere, u're gonna be the one scorned. if u feel u HAVE to say something, tell him this joke by chris rock...he talks about how he would never hit a woman, but he would shake the sh*t out of her...just a way of saying self defense works two ways.

It is possible for any one to be the victim in an abusive relationship. You don't hear as much about female to male violence because it is not as common and many men are even more ashamed and embarrassed to be victims than women are, because they are perceived as the stronger sex.

Yes of course. But it's also possible ti's something else. Is he into drugs or anything, maybe he's getting beaten up at bars? Good luck with your friend and tracking down the source!

Abuse isn't just caused by men!!! Women can be abuseres too. It's less common, and few men ever report it, because they don't want to be teased about getting beat up by a girl.

But it does happen, it is serious, and it is illegal. Try and get him some help, and don't tease him about it, if he confides in you.

Yes, it is entirely possible. There are females who abuse males. The males are usually too embarrassed to do anything about it.

It is very possible, especially since a lot of guys don't fight back when women attack them. Size doesn't matter when it comes to violence anyway. However, you shouldn't necessarily assume that it is his girlfriend...maybe a fight? Could you ask him?

Yes, it is. I witnessed a girl who was about a foot shorter and 100lbs lighter beat her boyfriend badly with a beer bottle. He didn't want to hurt her, so he didn't defend himself. It happens.
