so many people in this country who had the privelage of being born into their citizenship, who haven't had to do ANYTHING to earn it, think they deserve their citizenship any more or less than the illegal immigrants who are crossing our borders? As long as they're making a significant, positive contribution to our society who gives a &@*$ whether or not they have some piece of paper that says they're an American, and on the flip side of that, why should legal American citizens who make a conscious choice not to pull their own weight be treated any differently than illegal immigrants who do the same?

Uh, hello? Earth to retard? That's EXACTLY the way it is. The only reason you and I don't have to go through the same B.S. that the immigrants have to is our parents just HAPPENED to be American. The fact that people expect immigrants to go through the legal process doesn't bother me; it's the fact that people like you don't have a clue, nor do you or have they ever cared, exactly how much cr@p people have to go through to live here legally because you were born with the silver spoon of being born an American. If they're not contributing anything then fine, but the ones who are working their fingers to the bone to provide for their families should be treated like any other hard working citizen of this country, especially when there are so many LEGAL citizens of this country who think NOTHING of cheating on their taxes, or doing any number of other things that put a strain on taxpayers' money.

Merit should be the test we use to judge people in this nation not some status.
I have far more respect for someone who came here from another nation with nothing and worked hard than for someone who was born here, but contributes nothing.
I may sound harsh, but we should be a society based on merit. If you want to come here and make a contribution, you should be here. If you were born here and do not make a contribution, do not whine when others come from other corners of the world and take your job. We have an education system in this nation that will prepare people for jobs that most immigrants are not qualified for. If people would take education seriously, they would not have to fear anything from hard working immigrants.

I can't speak for others. But, I was born in the USA. My parents emigrated from Norway and were legally entered into the US via Ellis Island in the early part of the 20th Century. Because my father was a life-long socialist and we went through a number of "red scares" in the 20th Century, he had to wait until 1956 to gain that "piece of paper" which identified him as a naturalized citizen. Even though he had been given five awards of this nation's Merchant Marine medal for service during two World Wars and the Korean Conflict.
Now, should he be put on the same moral and legal plain as the folks who enter illegally, do not even try to apply for resident alien status or citizenship, make no effort to learn the dominant language of the country and fail to even communicate to their children in that language?
So, they are not making a positive contribution. By failing to assimilate and (worse yet) denying that to their children, they are condemning those children to low-level entry jobs with no hope of economic growth.

OMG. I just got stupider after reading your question, as did everyone else. I'll try to make this one point before I go out to buy some aspirin. Everyone on this planet has one thing in common, we are all citizens of the country we are born in. Get it? No, I didn't think so. If you are born in Mexico, your a citizen of Mexico. If you are born in France, your a citizen of France. Starting to see a pattern here? Let's see. If you are born in America, your a citizen of where?
I'm sorry if people out there feel that we won some sort of lottery being born here, instead of some third world pitOshit. America is only great because Americans worked hard to make it that way. We were motivated to make this country a place worth escaping to, not escaping from. Maybe we did too good of a job. If the Mexicans showed the motivation to improve their own country, rather then being motivated to illegally come here to cash in on our hard work, we wouldn't have a problem. Now I'm off to one of the places that made America great, A 24 hour pharmacy GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!
Save that you won the lottery crap for someone who didn't have to skip a meal or two growing up to keep a roof over their heads. Just because you were born with a silver spoon up your @ss doesn't mean we all did. What about those lucky 9th ward residents in New Orleans. or the thousands for homeless. Who chose their lottery prize Shelley Jackson? America has it's own citizens to look out for. (and not doing such a good job, I might add) We need to take care of our own before we can deal with the problems of citizens of other countries.
And in case you were wondering, yes I have money and things now, I worked my @ss off for them.

Because there is still a lot of racism in this country....How many years of oppression did the black community face, until the recent civil rights movement of the 1960's? And many do still face discrimination, others, sexism and religious persecution (Muslims & Jews)....Citizenship is a privilege, not a right...You can lose it at anytime....Some of these people seem to think they own the rights to American culture and society....If you don't agree with them, you are called a traitor....But please, define an American? They are from all over the world....

If you work to build a house and give it to your children, do they have no more right to it than someone else's children who 'just didn't happen to be born to you'?
Our ancestors built for us as we build for our children.
