My partner, my son (aged 18 months) and I will be staying in Hong Kong for two nights in a few months (stopover from Australia to UK), does anyone know of nice but inexpensive accommodation that would be suitable? Which sights do we absolutely have to see, considering we only really have one day to go touring? Thanks.

Try the Tai Wan Hotel Hong Kong Kowloon per the below link

This is the most reasonable rate I have seen in years. Seems almost perfect for the 3 of you. Right on Nathan Road in the heart of Kowloon. Please read the reviews.

asiarooms.com is pretty reasonable if not the best site for rooms in Asia. The reviews are honest and fair, good and bad are shown.

Sights to see, The Peak, Mon Kok for shopping Check with your concierge exactly how to get to these places. Mon Kok is maybe a station or two from this hotel by subway. The Peak you can take the subway to the ferry station or go across to Hong Kong then take a bus up the peak from there.

You will have to buy an Octopus card, a debit card you can pay for your subway fare and many food outlets. There is a Toys R Us in the mall near the ferry landing

Have a good time

since you only have 1 day stay in hong kong, i suggest you to stay in Hong Kong Island like Sheung Wan, Central or Kennedy Town.
