Do you have any other family you can talk to about him ? If so someone needs to intervene NOW and get him help if committing him in a treatment center then so be it, but do it before he is 18 years old, he will say he hates you for awhile but that is the drug and alcohol brother talking, not your true brother, Your parents need to open their eyes and see that he isn't in control it is the drugs and alcohol running his life, but if he turns 18 he is a adult and unless he agrees to treatment you can't get him help. As for your parents not trusting you, have a sit down heart to heart with them and let them know just because your brother is trying to ruin his life doesn't mean that's what you are or will do, let them know you think what your brother is doing is stupid, and make sure your not hanging with people that are using, invite friends over sit in the front room and watch a show with your parents let them see that you and your friends are not hiding anything they wouldn't approve of, Good luck.

There is not much you can do. Your parents need to take action. He is 17 which means they have less than a year before they can't force him to get help. You need to sit down and have a heart to heart with your parents and ask them to get involved. These things don't fix themselves. My brother was a pot smoker too. He is now 39, has never owned a home, has been locked up a couple of times for stupid stuff, doesn't have a car, no job.....while I'm here in my big house, with a husband and kids. It breaks my heart to not have a "normal" brother to share life with, but at least I made good choices and have a great life. You need to put yourself first.

Oh jeez, this doesn't sound like a good situation. Sadly I know someone that seems to be headed in that direction and he's about the same age. I know exactly how you feel. It really hurts to see someone you care about go down that path and watch their life slowly fall apart. Talk to his parents. If they cared about his well-being, they'd be listening to you and doing what they can to make sure he's in good health and being taken care of. Another helpful place to go would be an AA. They could give you advice and lead you to places that can help you and your friend get your friend back to good health. Good luck!

Man thats a hard situation. Im sorry about that. I don't know how likely this is but If he hooks up with a good girl then she might be able to change his ways. Women have that affect on guys. You just have to learn from his mistakes and be all the things you wish he was.

aw im so sorry...i know what you mean though, alot of kids i know do that stuff but teenagers do stupid things and hopefully your brother will grow out of that stage. But lucky for you, you can see how screwed up someones life becomes with pot so hopefully you wont make the same mistake...your parents are just protecting you, but just tell them you are not like him and tell them that you have seen how much it has messed up his life and that you are too smart to not follow in his steps.

If hes wrecked his car because of driving drunk, I dont think being "addicted to pot" is the problem.

The only way your parents will believe you is if you show them that you really are different than he is.

that is very sad im so sorry. i would go to councelling for advice. i like to give advice but i honestly dont know what to say so if no one says any good advice go to someone who is professional at it. even if you get good advice on here i would still get help elsewhere. im so sorry.

my advice is to love him no matter what. just tell him that you care for him and its killing you to see this happen. let him know your true feelings and that you are always there to help. as for your parents trust......just continue to do good things and they will learn to trust you. that is all i can say.

Tell him to try Valerian root. Its organic but makes you feel high. GNC sells it. Just tell him you love him and will help him when hes ready.
