ti-84 is a good calculator and should last you a very long time. i say keep it. i say this just because i know many schools in my area have banned the ti-89 from the classes.

As a user of both the TI-83 and TI-89, I must highly recommend the TI-89.

You will encounter far more situations in which the TI-89's ability to perform symbolic analysis (including derivatives and integrals) will come in handy than situations in which the TI-89 is banned. If the TI-84 cannot do symbolic manipulation, it should not be your calculator of choice.
