Jesus is not half man and God but to answer your question God is perfect and righteous he does not overlook or agree with sin. The wages of sin is death. God provided a way for his people to return to his righteousness by paying the penalty of death for us.

"Would you die for them?" The concept is self-sacrifice. Jesus did not call himself a god, nor did he indicate he was any more the "son of god" than any other man. His "immaculate conception" was determined by the Nicene council under Emperor Constantine when they founded the original "Catholic" church (a.k.a. "universal" church). There had been a prophesy that a messiah would be born in a cave/manger to a virgin, who would perform miracles and deliver his people unto the promised land in an act of self-sacrifice that amounted to a public execution or crucifixion. Jesus wasn't the first to fulfill all these requirements, but he was the most famous. The followers of this new religion (which he did not invent, but was the spokesperson for) were divided on the various aspects, especially since "Paul", a.k.a. the former "Saul" was preaching a version considered nearly heretical to the disciples who actually "knew" Jesus. The factions were causing trouble for Constantine who was trying to keep the peace between the "old gods" of the roman/greeks/byzantines and the christians, so he told them to figure out a way to please all the people, even if some of the time. They took the pagan festivals and gave them new names (although celebrated on the pagan days) and where they were both celebrated on or about the same day, the simply consolidated them under the universal church. Along with elevating Jesus to god-like status, they also confirmed his virgin birth, and to make sure that nobody could claim to be his decendent, said he was celebate (evidently the only Rabbi in history to have been so).
So, to answer your question, apparently the first person or group of persons who made up the "prophesy" and those of the Nicene council who decided his death was not in vain, but a fulfillment of ancient prophesy.

Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The writers of the New Testament Gospels. There were other Gospels written too that were not included in the bible, but that carry a lot of the same message. These were all written 50-100 yrs after His death.
Followers who believed in Jesus, carried on His message after His death. Eventually these stories were written down.

In Old Testament times it took the blood of an animal(sheep, lamb) for the forgiveness of sins of the Jewish/Hebrew. Jesus(God in the flesh) was the last sacrifice of blood to cover the sins of the world. Only blood purifies the soul and washes the stain of sins away

It's one of the mythic, iconic tales that surface again and again throughout history. Related to human nature and longings, it's as persistent as floods.
