Great question. I can only answer from my own experience. I think you will find that the more you delve into noncanonical texts the more it will strengthen the beliefs you already have. I've read as many as I could get my hands on to try and find answers to questions that couldn't be answered to my satisfaction by my pastor or other Christian friends. It would do you good to maybe pray for understanding before you read. You will find things that go against your beliefs from time to time. In my opinion God will let you know if what you're reading is true or not. You'll also find alot of missing pieces of the puzzles that are causing you to want to read outside of the standard in the first place. In other words, alot of what you think doesn't make sense (moral laws etc... all the stuff that people say is O.T. and doesn't count anymore because the world has changed) will suddenly make sense and you'll begin to understand why God made the laws in the first place. Don't stop at Enoch... keep going. (But yes, try to compare/contrast with whats in the Bible) If you want an interesting list email me.

No, absolutely not. Just to give you an idea of the way texts like these can be used, we spent a day in my New Testament class talking about the Acts of Paul, which is not included in the NT. However, there was a lot that could be learned from it about the culture and society of early Christianity. The same is true of Old Testament texts.

Different people have different views on what they believe as "truth." As a Christian, it is not wrong to read the "Book of Enoch" because you are just trying to expand your horizons, not find another way of believing. The important thing is to read the book with an open mind while remembering that you are reading to gain knowledge on other historical points-of-view.

I read the Book of Enoch years ago, and I am still Christian.

Don't turn off your brain, and don't seek the approval of men. Weigh everything on the Spirit of God and He will guide you to all things.

No it is not wrong but you must run what it says by the Bible to make sure it agrees.

Wrong? No. Just don't take it as scripture. There's a reason it's not in the bible.
