You've got to write the spells yourself or they don't mean anything. Do you want a factory-made cookie cutter prayer? No.

yes I do. It has been most effective in Healing body and mind, Calming my children and my self, breaking hexes, removing negativity.
A couple of good books are :
The Only Wiccan Spell Book You'll Ever Need by Marian Singer, Trish Macgregor,
To Ride A Silver Broomstick: New Generational Witchcraft by Silver RavenWolf ,
Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner by Scott Cunningham,
Complete Book Of Incense, Oils & Brews (Llewellyn's Practical Magick) by Scott Cunningham
There are several easy candle spells in these books and sections on writing your oun spells. Hope this helps you.

Actually, you just said the most basic of spells- wish fulfillment.
All the rest of it is just methods to assist you in focusing; you don't really need to the tools or trappings, even a candle may not be needed. Just a quiet space so you can focus on what you want and send it out into the world.
The best and easiest spell is this. Decide what you want, and word your request specifically and consisely- remember, you get what you wish for (the lore of fairy tales has some truth to it) so you have to be very careful in your wording. Focus on your request, put some energy and intent behind it and think of sending that wish out into the world. Evebtually, you will get results, but never expect them to be instant- it's not pudding, after all.
Yes, they work, on the rare occasion I do one. But it's not just the spell alone; you have to do the work to assist that spell in happening.
let me give you an example. WE are moving across country and needed to find a new house. We had to take a second trip, which was exhausting for all involved, and before we left, I said - and put out there for the universe to hear - "This trip we will find a house that we can move right into that won't take too much work to be liveable all the time." But If I'd just sat here in my chair, nothing would have happened.
Instead, I had to drive across country, look at 18 houses, talk a lot with my spouse and we did indeed find a house.
But I also am getting what I wished for - we can move in as soon as we close, BUT the roof is going to need some work - "not too much work" - but work all the same, so the house can be habitable all the time.
See why you should be careful?

Yes the spells work but only when you put your whole faith in your work and have positive thinking to get what you do want, and also respect the basic four principals of magick, that is To Know, To will, To Dare, and keep silence. that is to know something, intend it, and then do it, and do not talk about it. Better you will learn about the working of the energy from the above mentioned books, and than practice the rituals, and try to do it for White work, although there is nothing white or black on higher levels, one is needed to balance the other, yet try not to harm others or manipulate others free will.

I only use spells in moments of desperation. When I really need them. Its too dangerous to play with magick over stupid little things because it could go massively horribly wrong.
I used magick to help heal my sister and she made an amazing recovery overnight. She wasn't healed completely but she went from deaths door to survival the night I cast the spell.
I didn't cast a spell for my mom and she died. I was in denial because I desperately didn't want it to happen.
I cast a spell to find my happiness, and I found it.
Yes, it works. But not all the time. As evidenced by the fact that my first marriage failed.

Well, I'm not a "dabbler"....I'm 47 and was born into a "Witchy Family", though that is not what my family called it. (they always just called it "the way things are done". I don't count my mother because she does not practice "the way things are done" as does the rest of the family) I was always taught that "craftwork"/"spellwork" is a tool to assist you in creating your life as you want it to be, but it is not something to be used for minor things (ie: things you could do for yourself without the aid of spellwork).
Do my spells work when I do them. Yes, they do. I have used spellwork: to aid in finding a home when I had no prospect of one, to aid me in finding employment when I was having great difficulty finding a job, to aid family members who were having difficulties conceiving and maintaining a pregnancy...to give just a few examples. As you can see, I tend to use it for "big" things.
I too light candles and say prayers...but for me, that isn't "spellwork", it is "prayer work" and a request. When I *REALLY* need help and use a spell it is *much* more involved.
I think the previously mentioned books are a good starting point...I also think learning as much as you can about yourself, focus, intent, reasons for wanting to do the spell are all very important.
"One should not 'dabble'....."

Kudos on asking on this forum to the disdain of many Christians who will be pissed, but any way...
Yes, my spells have worked for me, not that I've cast many. If you're interested in books, read Christopher Penczak's "The Inner Temple of Witchcraft." It's not just wicca, though he focuses alot on it, but mainly on using and shaping energy, which is the baisis for all magick use. He also has a book called "The Outer Temple of Witchcraft." That will further help you understand energy and how it works, even if you have no real interest in Wicca.

The word "dabble" makes me concerned...
The best spells are those you create yourself, but you need to understand the "what am I doing" and the "why am I doing it" and the "what could go wrong" before you start. It's not a toy.

I do not "dabble", thank you kindly. And frequently, yes, my spells work. I don't "do spells" of the usual reasons of "love" or "money", I do my spells for peace and personal empowerment. After all, The Goddess helps those who helps themselves.

Oh it works.........boy does it work when the intent is there. However it's nothing to just "dabble in" and it's nothing to play with.
