It could be from Moshe...or means 'son of' like son of Thut ...
but you have an interesting point...if it is egyptian then okay.. his name was moses...but if the hebrews gave him the name moses.... i too wonder if he had an egyptian name... the egyptians probably removed it from history... but why did the hebrews? interesting.

Isn’t it ironic, then, that the greatest Hebrew prophet and lawgiver, the man who single-handedly organized the Israelites and led them out of Egypt, has an Egyptian name? And his name is not just any Egyptian name, it’s a religious Egyptian name. Moses’ name reflects basic Egyptian religious beliefs that are, in truth, not as different from Mosaic Judaism as the Book of Exodus might lead us to believe. The familiar name Moses is actually Moshe in Hebrew. The final -s in the English comes from the ancient Greek translation of the Bible known as the Septuagint: a terminal sigma was added because Greek does not permit masculine proper nouns to end in a vowel.
Ever hear of the Egyptian pharoah Tutmoses? See the word moses in it?

People have tried to identify the pharaoh whose daughter found Moses in the river by various calculations, and thence to identify statues and drawings of Moses. See http://biblelight.net/moses.htm for example.
The name Moses is an Egyptian name meaning "born of". e.g Tutmoses means "Born of Thoth"

Moses is his Egyptian name. He was named Moses by Pharoah's daughter when she found him because the word means "drawn out of" and she drew hm out of the Nile river. It is all explained in the Bible.

Moses was Jewish (Hebrew) not Egyptian and his birth given name is
"We gave him six names," the mother said. "Jered, Chaver, Jekuthiel, Avigdor, Avi-Socho, and Avi-Zonoach!"
"I will give him a seventh name," Bithiah said. "I will call him Moshe (Moses), because I drew him out of the water."

I believe it was Moshe. And here:
Moses, a 2-syllable boy's name of Hebrew origin, means: Saved from the water.
