8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work

Let us consider the inverse of consciousness. If you were just a reactionary unaware of what you were and what you were doing you'd be a machine, but have no awareness. But we are aware of ourselves, our place in the world, and our relationship to GOD. Consciousness then is not so much a purpose but a state of being in GOD . .. of course we to GOD are like as to sheep. GOD knows all things are very limited in our undestanding so we just follow. But we are aware of ourselves . ..

2 Corinthians 9:8 is really speaking of, are we conscious of the things that God gives us? We were created to do good works in Him and He gives us all sufficiency to get His work done. He has given us all we need to abound in every good work. In order to do this high level work for Him requires that our thinking, speaking, and actions are all from God and not of ourselves.

Consciousness is what gives life continuity. If we weren't conscious that yesterday we were then life is pointless.It also allows us to be aware of a greater power at work. All one needs to do is be still and reflect.We are conscious immediately that we are not alone.The higher level of spiritual consciousness we achieve and the more at one with God we become.
