Heh heh....This could be fun. How much are you willing to spend?

There are a million different directions you could go with this, depending on what you're going to want to do with it, what you want it to look like, and how much you're willing to shell out.

However, a receiver from Volquartsen would be a good place to start--stainless steel for a target type rifle, or the superlite alloy for more of a lightweight plinker. Link: https://www.volquartsen.com/vc//pages/public/ListItems.jsp?id=33

Keep in mind that this is the part that the BATFE considers as the "gun," so you'll need to ask one of your local gun shops to order it for you. It should cost about $400 for this part alone.

OK......I'm a Gunsmith and I'll tell you the facts right up front. I have personally built 8 of these custom guns from the receiver up for customers and I personally own 3 myself. I love these guns more than any others I own and they are incredibly fun and accurate to build and shoot.Contrary to what you have already been told you can build one of these guns without getting a dealer to buy you anything. The only requirement is you use the original receiver to build on. ALL of the parts, barrel, action components, trigger parts, extractors, custom stocks etc are legal for you to buy and assemble yourself without ANY permits, licenses what-so-ever. There are tons of options here and it would take hours to list them and describe the installation techniques. You can spend hundreds of dollars or more and go completely "overboard" or you can do it the sensible way I will tell you and end up with a "Tack Driving" machine that will shoot 1/2" groups at 100 yards consistently and custom looks that people will think you spent $1000 to build. If you are truly interested I will give you the list as well as sources to but all of the components you will need to build a complete custom gun that will knock your socks off. Contact me via e-mail and I will be more than happy to help you.....

Check this site: www.midwayusa.com

On the main page you will see a schematic of some gun. Click on that. It will give you a list of what schematics are available. You will find the 10-22 on that list.

Click on that and you will get a exploded view (schematic) of the carbine. All of the parts are numbered. Click on the part and it will take you to a list of what is available. For instance, if you click on the barrel; you will get a list of all the barrels Midway has for the gun.

Building the gun this way will probably double or triple the cost of an already built gun. There are kits available for bull barrels and special stocks if that is what you are going for.

JD is correct but I would add they do make a receiver that is 80% completed all you have to do is add some holes for screws and mounts
