Some dogs just don't like to swim....try going to a boat dock (with piers) and bring him out on th pier and throw him in. Keep him leashed so he doens't swim away and you don't have to jump in after him. :) Or, try to bring him swimming with another dog or dogs like like to swim, maybe he will want to go in then. One more thing, get his favorite ball or water-friendly toy and throw it in. He might go after it. You could even use a stick (if he likes sticks.)

BTW, you shouldn't wash your dog eveyday, it is actually not good for them. It dries their skin out really bad and they will end up scratching it and basically ripping their skin open. Try to only let him swim once a week or so. Or don't bathe him so often. Depending on the breed, you're only supposed to bathe them less than once a month....

Why exactly do you want the dog to swim? Labs are generally known for their love of water and their ability to hunt for water fowl, but I have a chocolate lab who doesn't swim; doesn't like the water; and only gets a bath twice a year. He is healthy, happy, and beautiful. (He's 10 years old.)

A dog's natural instincts will kick in if he is dropped, falls, or is thrown into water, but they don't have to swim.

Take him for walks, but under no circumstances should you force him to swim.

My dog absolutly hates getting wet also!!!!!!!!!!! I'm going to try to get in with him and his toys and hold him until he gets comfortable. I bathe him once a week, he seems to be getting a little better but still hates the hose. From the research I've done some dogs just hate water, mostly smaller dogs it seems.I guess it just depends on the dog.

A- Dont wash everyday, can cause skin damage

B- Find a shallow area and put him in it. He'll swim, but stay close if he's not a swimming dog.

Dogs only need bathing about once a month. Other wise you can dry out their skin.

If the dog wants to swim, he'll swim. You'll do more harm than good and only intensify his fear of water if you force him.

Sweetie, if your dog gets enough exercise and is healthy don't stress. And washing daily is not healthy. Please chat with your vet.
