I don't know what to do! I over eat alot...I never really seen it as an eating disorder, but maybe it is...I don't know what to do anymore. I have tried to just stop eating so much and only eat 3 meals a day and maybe a snack or two, but I can't. If I am not eating, I am thinking about food or looking for something to eat. I am a little over weight, but not to bad, I just want this to stop, but I don't know what to do. I am always depressed, but mostly now it is because I can't control my eating habits. What am I supposed to do? Please help! Also..I don't need criticism..I feel bad enough. Thanks in advance.

...I do that too... it's an awful feeling. You know you don't need what your eating, but you're eating it anyway... I don't know how many times I've walked to the fridge or pantry and thought "what am I doing?? I'm not hungry!?" and still, there I am, eating something...

but, lately, I've found it helps to have something to do... I took up knitting. So, when I feel hungry, I get a glass of water, and knit for 15-20 minutes...I even bought a timer at a dollar store and I set it for 15 minutes. Usually, it's passed by that time, and I don't feel like eating anymore, so I can get up and finish the laundry or dishes or whatever it was I was doing. If I still feel hungry, then I have fresh fruit I keep on hand in the fridge. I'm trying to slowly get rid of all the other snack stuff that my husband buys...and then I eat all day while I'm at home with the kids.

You should check out sparkpeople.com, there's a food tracker on it that you can put in all the food you eat in a day, and see what you're eating. There are also other tools (exercise tracker...and TONS of other stuff that may help you, as well.) Keeping a food diary may help too (you can keep a "blog" on sparkpeople.com.)

I'm guessing you don't want to go to therapy? That would be a good place to start. They will help you find other things to do instead of eating and help you see what triggers you to eat.
That said, the more you try not to eat, the more you're gonna. Just try one meal at a time, if you eat in between - move on- don't think that the rest of today is blown and you might as well eat as much as you want. You need to start little and adjust slowly. Try cutting one snack, then two and so on. If you completely deprive yourself or beat yourself up, you're only going to fail. I am not one for "groups", but I liked weight watchers point booklet. They showed me a guidline of what and how much to eat and you got to bank points- save some up- for when you go out or want to splurge a little. Another way of cutting back is to take "healthy" snacks and lunches. I found that I didn't really want carrots or celery so I would take a few bites and be done. Worth a try right.

I think your depression is a cause of why you are eating so much and if you do not try to stop it, your metabolism will eventually slow down and you can start puttin on a whole lot of weight. You need to start looking at ways to get u to not eating. Try drinking water at those times when you have eaten and still feel like you should have more. Try instead of taking out your depression on food, you need to also look at other ways to channel that stress otherwise than eating, like maybe start writing a journal or talking to someone or even getting out of the house and doing something with friends, start making friends even and you will be ok. Good luck...

Its ok to eat more than 3 meals a day (many say its better), but just keep them a bit smaller and make sure whatever you're eating is healthy...fresh fruit, yogurt, raw or steamed veggies, salad, lean meat, eggs (not too much), a wrap or small sub...just experiment and find out what you like, and don't be afraid to try a new fruit or veggie that you've never tried before.

If you're feeling depressed, have a banana or a SMALL piece of dark chocolate. Good luck! You'll be fine :)

FIrst of all, try getting out and doing something other than worrying about food. Listen to music or start exercising. Get your mind off food. Also, try counting the calories of what you are eating, set a limit and dont' go over it. Change your limit day to day and the foods you eat also. Keep a food journal and also record your mood. Try new things and write down how they affect your mood. Working out is great for depression. Try working out with Denise Austin on Lifetime (on cable), she can really help you focus on being happy and healthy. Focus on what foods are healthy and study up on fast food and junk food, you;ll find that eating them can be harmful to yourself and that can help you avoid them. Also, start small, limit a few days a week where you can have a tasty treat and leave the other days for healthy eats. Record your progress and you'll see results.

Try having 5 or 6 small, healthy meals a day. Make sure you're eating whole grains, fruits and veggies, and drinking lots of water. You'll be ok. Have you considered joining a program like Weight Watchers? You'll get lots of support that way.

What you need to do is start logging what you are eating and making adjustments. You also need to exercise 5 days a week. You need to use the fact that you like to eat to your advantage. If you start eating 5 smaller meals instead of 3 large ones you will do fine. You need to also start watching what you are eating.

I think you need to visit a registered dietitian because binging is a serious disorder that can have negative consequences for your health. Please do so and she or he can help you figure out a meal plan that might work best for you. Do you have triggers for eating? Have you tried working out or spending time with friends and family so you are not eating? Fill your day with other activities and brush your teeth to signal that eating is over. Try chewing gum, it helps me!

Good luck to you!

It may be more than just what it apppears to be. Since you say your always depressed, that could be your problem. If it is depression ( which is in no way your fault) then it needs to be treated. It may be you reach out to food and your comfort blanket. I have that problem but now I taking control of it and it's about time you ask for advice from your parents if they haven't noticed or have been waiting for you to come when your ready, or they may just be denying there's is a psy problem that may be influencing this behavior. Best Wishes!

Examine what you are doing while you are eating, like watching TV or whatever, and then change that habit by doing something else. With the new activity you have a new chance not to eat!!!
