I think that dog people in general are nicer people, but then I am biased. I have nobody in my circle of friends who does not like dogs. I guess it is a mutual selection.
Here I have often read that the answers are too harsh, so it is nice to read a different opinion.
Grad 07, you will probably find - after a while - that the same questions get asked again and again ad nauseam. People come in and post a question without looking if something similar has already been asked.
One of the pet hates of responsible breeders, or people like me, who just love dogs and let the breeding experts get on with their job, are irresponsible breeders. That means people who breed "unproven" dogs just for the heck of it. When you have explained something politely for 100 times and the next person ask the same thing again, you sometimes crack the s***ts. Please forgive us, we are all human.
We should probably keep a "template" type thing in a word document or somewhere that we can copy and paste, everytime a newcomer wants to start breeding without having a clue about it, so our replies sound nice and friendly every time.
On the other hand, politeness cuts both ways. We have a lot of people coming in, asking about breeding, and tell all those pure-breed breeders to eff off, before they have even uttered a word.
I take any criticism on board and try to improve myself, but when it comes down to whose side I am on, I can promise, I am always on the dog's side!!! :)))

I know a few in the dog section are really nice at all times and the rest of us try to be but as Kats said, it depends on the question.
I think the reason most dog people are nice in general is because we spend our time with dogs and because of all the time spent with dogs, we learn patience, respect and most of all how to laugh!!

I think it has to do with personality type. There is something self-less about taking care of another creature, and not everyone thinks that all the time, energy and money you have to put into a dog is worth it. I think dog people may just be a little more optimistic, generous and caring than cat owners and people who don't own pets.

Dog people have compassion for others. However, we aren't always nice. I can be a real b*tch, when somebody who is totally and completely ignorant is asking questions about breeding.
Or when somebody asks a question about their very sick dog, who should be on the way to the vet, instead of sitting around while the owner consults Yahoo Answers.
I don't intend to be b*tchy, I just get very frustrated with people who should know better.

I try to be nice and offer help where I can, but sometimes I simply can't help being a bit snarky. I do try tho, especially with the "why is my dog freaking out in the crate" questions, because I lived that and found a load of helpful people through that circumstance.
Do unto others... :)

I think it's basically because most dog folk have learnt to care about something beyond themselves, and want every dog to have the best possible life. What better way to improve a dog's life than by helping and educating it's owner?

I can only speak for myself, but because I know, and have experienced what an awesome bond & relationship is possible with your dog......I find a lot of joy in sharing whatever knowledge & experience I have, so others can enjoy it as well.

Because we take cues from our best friends--our dogs! Most dogs are genuinely loving and friendly, and when you're with your dog, you want to be the person they think you are!
