Repentance is a feeling but it is also an act.

Are there actions that are beneficial even if the thought behind them isn't?

The devil will move heaven and earth to try to make one believe that they aren't sincere in doing anything that would indicate that they have hope. He is a liar, and the father of it.

Speaking from the heart is the strongest of sincere prayers. This is why we must believe in our heart that Jesus is the Son of God in order to be saved. For one thing, repentance is a grace that is given by God. If God knows you will not be sincere, He will not grant you repentance, even if you ask for it. God sees the inner intents of man's heart, so He will know if you are serious with Him or not.

Help? Well...to repent means to have remorse....

Also...it means to make a change for the better as a result of remorse or contrition for one's sins....

If someone makes a change for the better...I'd say, yeah...it can help.

Let's say some dude is stealing old ladies purses. Let's say he gets scared and changes his ways....in one way, he has repented of his former ways...sincere or not...little old ladies are safer.

That helps society.

firstly, weird avatar...

to answer your question, repentance is not done with WORDS. It is a contious choice to never again do what you did, and then ACT only in the ways of G-d.

Humbling yourself, then "seeking G-d's face", and turning away from wickedness is true repentance.

No! The whole meaning of repentance is that one turns away from their bad habits.

If it's not sincere, then you just add lying to the list of things you've done wrong.
