I have particularly noted, especially from the latin community, that there is no hesitation to fly flags from their country (Cuba, Puerter Rico, and Mexico) as well as speaking their native language blatently in public.

What happened to the respect for the country you live in? My great, great, grandparents would role over in their graves if I was out in public blubbering Italian and hanging Italian flags from my balcony and car.

Mark F: Its 'too' and not 'to'. See...this is what I'm talking about. Pitiful. I suppose pride is about not being able to use grammer properly or complete a sentence or even make a paragraph for that matter. Yes...my great, great, grandparents would role over in their graves. lol Pitiful.

midcent: Seems like you are making your own drama. No where in my question or details did I say every single latino does this. I said 'I particularly noticed this of'. But this is how it is with latinos. Make everything a race issue and flounce your pride. You have more then proven my point. And by the way, where I live the flags are waving honey and they are not US flags.

Cleo: Don't put words in my mouth. I would learn French. And in my home, if I chose to speak English I would. So stupid.

Freedom of speech is a blanketed term. And because of people like you throwing around the "Oh...freedom of speech" crap the government had to actually make it more politicially correct calling it "Freedom of Expression" as our constitution does not protect languages as a blanket such as English, French, Spanish, etc. Since the right is not confined to verbal speech but is understood to protect any act of seeking, receiving and imparting information or ideas, regardless of the medium used whether it be TV, radio, rallies, etc., etc. Language is not protected...sorry. Why do you think our government is passing bills to require immigrants to learn English? Oh...is that against your blanketed 'freedom of speech' too?

"United we stand, divided we fall" It's obvious that some people just don't want to be American. Being proud of your heritage is one thing, but not even recognizing that you're in America is another. If you come to America, I assume it's because you want to be American. You came here to change your life, not the lives of the American's you emulate. Fly the flag that represents the freedoms you came here for... Old Glory

I am not crazy about hearing Spanish in public but if that really is the only language someone knows, what can they do? I don't believe they should be flying their flag while burning ours. I also think that if I am a customer in a business, the clerks shouldn't be speaking another language in fro nt of me.Not just Spanish but any other language because I am giving them money for their services and should feel comfortable doing it. I live in Hungary and my Hungarian is very weak, I try to communicate but I know how hard it can be.I see that people treat me better when I try to speak their language, it shows that I am respecting them.I do speak English in public when I am with my husband, he also speaks Hungarian so that the clerks can understand us.

I find it amusing that so many bring up freedom of speech when it is often surpressed here at Y/A by trolls who report good answers from both sides of the immigration/illegal alien issues.
My experience has been that legal immigrants do respect our nation. Most citizens as well until law or tradition impedes their particular wants. My stepson's wife is naturalized, born in Mexico City. She does not allow anyone to speak Spanish in front of their young son, as she is raising him to speak English as she does. It was her choice to do this. He is being taught AMESLAN as her mother is deaf.
My French-born daughter-in-law refuses to speak French publicly here. She considers it rude and if my son speaks to her in French in front of the family to make a "private" comment to her, she will respond in English to his embarrassment at times. That also is her choice.
There has been a large number of non-English speaking people move into our area in the last few years. To be honest, no, I don't know their status. Yet, I see very few with an American flag or wearing any patriotic attire. I see quite a few wearing the Mexican flag or El Salvadoran flag on t-shirts. I'm not attempting to be racist, but there is a prevalence of Spanish-speakers here, followed by Asian primarily. Most simply wear common attire without any reference to any nation or patriotic theme. Some are politely behaved in public, others are not. I cannot judge their status by their behavior.
It may not be a matter of national pride and respect, but a reflection on society itself. A lack of common courtesy on the parts of many people, citizens, immigrants and illegal aliens included.

Why would it be deemed disrespectful to speak one native language in public. freedom of speech, you forget this is America. It is not in my realm of consideration what your grandparent do in their grave, do not attempt to compare me with your value judgments, they are not the same. If I am conducting business when it is required I speak English, that is what I speak ,if I am with my own I speak Spanish,
I remember the time I worked in a copper mine, there were six Mexicans and one Anglo working in a reclaim pond and Tex said I don't want you speaking Spanish around me,I told him, we were going to and if he did not like it to go work by himself at the other end of the pond. He never addressed the subject again.

Ez wider That might be the reasons you and yours came to America, you Anglo expect every one that is an American to be like you, I do not want to be like you and your culture offers nothing that I would want, By the way my family was here before yours came.

What's happening is that more mexicans are coming into this country than we can accept at one time. It's because they're coming in illegally. This means that mexican immigrants, unlike previous immigrants, don't have to depend on the general American public for support and community because there is so many mexicans here already.

Since some of them aren't immigrating legally, they are in effect colonizing or land, not immigrating and assimilating with our people..

Their respect is completely gone. They left it at the border. They have also taken the Americans peoples respect for its government too.

They have no respect and they know they can get away with it. This country has become way too soft. We bend over backward to accomodate foreigners and they take advantage of it. It is time to stop being politically correct and do the right thing for America. The ACLU is our enemy, they are destroying this country.
