you can't get him to stop and nicorette doesn't work. let me tell you something about smokers, we know it's bad and that it can kill us. we know the people around us hate it and worry. we know we should stop.but.. cigarettes are like a friend. a good friend. there a chemical addiction in cigarettes. just like any other addiction. it's real. on top of the chemical addiction there is a huge emotional one as well. this is why people get crabby, depressed and out right nasty when quitting. the more you badger him the worse you will make it. telling him he'll die or that it smells or giving him statistics will not do you any good. i promise you that. instead, try this, there is a new drug called chantix(i think) it has had good results. i'm going to try it soon myself. find some info on it. talk to him about it.offer to help him when he decides to quit but realize, it has to be his desicion.let him know that you love him and will help him fight his cravings. also, look into a stop smoking clinic. most hospitals offer them free of charge and are run by ex smokers. they can really help. be patient and engouraging and hopefully, you'll see a change in him. best of luck

Well I am a smoker myself and also is my dad. Before I started smoking I remember the nasty smell of it, although Im used to it now. You need to try your very best to sit down and talk to them about how you truly feel, "dont want to bury them due to lung cancer".. that's really the only thing YOU can do. Of course you can't force them to stop. I quit smoking myself before by eating on candy. Jolly ranchers was my every day thing. Lol. Also theres a method of chewing on cut straws. Try to tell them these other options. Plead for them to just give it a TRY even if it doesn't work. And that is if they just wont use the gum or patch. They seem to need a mental picture that they are smoking or have something in their mouth. Smoking is partially a mental thing especially when its used because of stress and anxiety. It's hard to stop but POSSIBLE. Good luck (: xx

Keep trying. We tried to get my dad to stop for years and he didn't listen. Now he has COPD and he gets out of breat if he walks to the mail box. You can't make someone stop. My dad said his emphysema feels like how a fish feels when it's out of water. Go to walmart and get a cheap goldfish. Take it out and set it on the table in front of your dad. Let him watch the fish flopping and struggling to breathe and tell him that's how it's going to feel for him eventually if he doesn't quit.

I would take a cigarette and light it up. Have him walk in as you smoke it. When he starts to yell at you, ask him why he is yelling. He willtell you why he doesn't want to you to smoke. And you can say that's how I feel about you.

My dad is smoker to and he will not quit either, he says he tries but he does not. You could tell him that when he smokes he is not only hurting himself but he is hurting you and your family too. You guys have a risk of getting cancer. It is true. I wish you the best of luck trying to convince him to quit.
