To start off I would try to transfer my habit to biting something else which you always have on hand, like a pencil. This should give you a bit more head-space to determine how compulsive this behaviour is.
You seem pretty concerned about it and may need the help of a professional. Many psychologists have strategies they can teach you to help with both strong habits and obsessive compulsive behaviour. Ask your GP to refer you if you can't kick the habit. Many people have these sorts of issues so you are definitely not alone.

I stopped biting when I got braces. I couldn't get my finger in well enough to bite.

Your acrylic nails need to come from the salon. They should cost around $30. They are so hard, when you slip (and usually break a nail) the whole nail comes up and bruises your nail bed. They are attractive, hard, unbreakable, and I defy you to bend them or chew them. You still have to work on your cuticles, but the nail thing is done.

P.S. You have to go back every 3 weeks to have them touched up (because your nails grew out, right?). That'll be roughly $15.

The only way to stop is to train your brain! Have you tried weekly manicures? Have you tried silk wraps?? They have a very natural look to them and feel great. Your natural nails will grow out and should be in good condition. I had a client in last week who was very young and gave her a full set of silk wraps. Her Mother was fed up with the fact that she constantly chewed and bit her nails. She was so impressed that she called me this week to tell me that she loved her nails so much that she couldn't bear to put them into her mouth. Maybe this could work for you too. You need to make the choice. Biting your nails is not only a very nasty habit it is also one that could make you very ill. Your hands carry many bacteria that is transferred to your mouth, eyes and also your genital area. It is extremely important to keep your hands clean and wash them before and after using the bathroom. Also, keep them away from your mouth.

This is what I did. Every time that I would bite or pick my nails, you have to think about what you are doing, and if that doesn't work, dig your nail into the tip of your finger really hard. This will help you to learn to not bie them so often because you will realize that biting or picking means pain.

Biting your nails is a habit
you should find a diffeent and better habit to stoop the biting nail habit,
you could chew-gum, go on the computer alot, or exercize alot.

i had the same problem and i just kinda grew out of it. my mom, who was totally against it, told me that there are a lot of harmful bacteria under nails and there are even worm eggs that hatch inside your body (fact from Oprah show w/ Dr. Oz). but, what really helped me was getting my nails painted at a salon really pretty, so that i wouldn't want to bite them and ruin the manicure. good luck.

Get a really nice manicure so that you won't want to ruin it. Also, wear gloves to bed so that you don't bite your nails in your sleep.
