A soft lower hose will collapse at speed and cause overheating. A clogged/dirty radiator, a bad water pump, or a loose belt on the water pump will also cause overheating. Rather than spend a bunch of money by throwing parts at it get a good mechanic to diagnose the problem for you. Believe me it will be much cheaper in the long run.

A few things come to mind, first the Taurus is notorious for not venting all the air from the cooling system. try parking the car nose up 8 to 10 inches higher than it normally sets this will help purge the air. next check that the cooling fan/s are working. you might also check the area between the radiator and the condenser this area can and does get pluged with junk. if it is use a garden hose and wash out as much as you can. good luck

If this has a 3.0 V6, they had a problem with these during the 90's. It was very common for the radiator to clog up which caused overheating, a head gasket to blow or radiator hoses to expand and burst. Have the cooling system pressure tested.

If it somewhat is a sprint better while that's shifting, that's in all probability a clogged radiator. 14 years is incredibly old for one. A blown head gasket could be got here across with a sprint gadget stable mechanics have that unearths exhaust gas in the cooling device. do not positioned a scavenged radiator in. Fork out $a hundred for a clean one.

No one has even mentioned the cooling fan. Is it coming on??
If not, it will never stop overheating untill you go over 40 mph to get some airflow over the radiator.
