After Shane Hmiel and more recently Aaron Fike's little problem with drugs, should they do some sort of random drug testing on drivers, and or the crew of these teams.
Like Kevin Harvick said, These guys are Pro Athletes and should be treated accordingly including random drug testing.
It sure would weed out all the problem people quicker. I think it makes perfect sense. What do you think. Yes or No, and Drivers only or crew too.

I sure wouldn't want to race 200+ next to a guy that decided to have some bong hits and a couple of lines of coke 3 days before a race even though he is not technically "under the influence" at that time. You need all you concentration and brain cells to race that fast. These guys are Pro Athletes and every other sport with Pro athletes I know of except golf gets tested. I partake in a little of the chronic every once in a while and don't think there's anything wrong with that but I'm no pro athlete.

I'm not a big Harvick fan, but kudos to him for speaking up! All other major sports have a testing program in place, and NASCAR should as well. In other sports, if you are using, there is no risk of killing another person. Also, the NASCAR fan base is so age-diverse that there are a lot of children watching. What message does NASCAR send to them if they do not test? That it's OK to drive 200 mph under the influence, as long as you have the proper safety gear?

I don't think so. As long as they aren't drugged up while racing, why should NASCAR get involved? There are no drugs to enhance performance behind the wheel, so NASCAR should stay out of it. If anyone should get involved, it should be the team owners. Every team has a vested interest in making sure their driver is at his best on the track and off. Another thing to consider is NASCAR's history regarding the consistency of rules. There should be a drug policy, but I say leave it up to the team owners.

No. Let's back up one degree.
It sounds as if Fike has been convicted by the public before his day in court.
Who has read that he was under the influence? Who has read that he has tested positive for drugs? Has he been convicted by the media? And is Aaron Fike really representative of the sport of NASCAR?
When these drivers are required to be tested for drugs, routinely or even randomly, it means that their own teams and maybe even the public at large have lost the faith.
Do you trust that your driver would never become involved in drugs? Let's hope so
.
NASCAR doesn't neeed to launch an anti-drug campaign because NASCAR DRIVERS ARE BETTER THAN THAT!
Who in this forum thinks that anyone in the US possessing a drivers license should be randomly tested for drugs?
If you answered yes, you have forgotten why we even have the freedom to watch sports on TV.

You have raised some pertinent points! Yes I think it would not be such a bad idea I also have in the past partaken of most non injectable things but I also am not any type of athlete so where is the problem with a random drug test for not only NASCAR drivers but all motorsport drivers ?

Me personally, I do not agree with drug testing. The only way I would support drug testing, was if they could tell weather or not you was under the influence at time of test. Maybe with a mouth swab or something like that. What a person does on his/her own time is that persons business and no one else's. If a driver was to smoke a joint today, on there day off, they would still test positive on Saturday or Sunday, yet they are no longer under the influence.
If they do in fact make testing mandatory though, it should be for the whole team. It is not fair to just single out the driver.

NASCAR has a random drug testing program. It works.Kevin Grubbs,Shane Hmeil to mention 2 that were tested and failed, twice each.
Drivers, crew members and NASCAR officials are tested at random or when NASCAR suspects a problem.Test are done at every race and nobody knows whowill be tested until they sign in.

I know they watch it real close and I was thinking that they did do a check of some sort. Could be wrong though.
I can remember in the beginning of Tim Richmond's last year they wouldn't let him run the Daytona 500 and I think several more races because of the drug he was taking at the time for his aids treatment. I do believe on air they said he had pneumonia at the time. And they also made it clear that he wasn't a drugy that it was prsctibed madicine that wasn't approved by NASCAR.

I think drivers and crews should. They have drug tests for any other job in the country. Plus everyone says that NA$CAR is a sport and every sport in the country has drug tests.
And to think no NA$CAR driver would ever do drugs is just naive.

It depends on the list If a driver's smoking meth before the race of has a serious crack problem that needs to be gotten out of the sport. But if they went by WADA standards then the catch can man with a cold couldn't take some anti-histimen before a Sunday race, or enjoy a blunt on New Years Eve. Kevin's on the right track but the I'd like to see the rules before I agree whole heartedly.

Yes drivers and crew should be drug tested. Anyone who is in the pit box or in a car should be drug free and tested to be sure they are. If not they are a risk to everyone else in Nascar.
