Well i no everyone is gonna say this, but I'm gonna for a reason.. You are gonna have to go to your vet for this so they can do a stool sample hun.. For the simple fact is, you don't know what kind of worms your pet has, and you may buy the wrong product for the wrong worms and only certain things you can ONLY get from your vet will work for certain types of parasites... Like you don't know if it is roundworms, tape, or so on. So no matter what anyone tell's you have your vet do a stool sample to figure out what type of intestinal parasite your dog has, so it can be treated properly with the RIGHT medicine..

Panacur will treat most worms except dipilidium caninum which is the tapeworm that can be picked up from fleas. It does not do heartworm though but it does kill giardia. Most vets would recommend a three day course of panacur as routine worming for pups.

It is easy to tell the difference between tape and roundworm. If your dog has passed worms that look a bit like spaghetti then it's roundworm. If they have what looks like dried up bits of rice attached to their rearend then it is tapeworm. Other kinds like hook and whipworm need testing for but a 16 week old pup is most likely to have roundworm.

Do NOT use OTC dewormers, especially for puppies..they aren't all that effective and they can actually be dangerous.
A puppy should only get a dewormer approved by your vet and for the particular type of worms it has (which can be determined by getting a fecal test done).

Panacur is what the vets were using until recently. It is now OTC and works very well.
The vets are now using products with Pyrantel Pamoate. There are many otc wormers that contain this. Just read the labels.

OTC de-wormer is not as good as going to the vet. It won't get rid of all the necessary parasites.
