An M1 Garand fires the Springfield 30-06. This cartridge is legal in all states. The rifle holds 8 rounds in a clip that must be loaded from the top. As long as your state does not have a restriction on magazine capacity or action used. Most states I know allow semi auto action. A lot of states require a magazine capacity of no more than 4 or 5 rounds. You would have to cycle a few rounds out of the rifle.
The M1Garand is a combat rifle and unless you are extremely good with peep sites or you have a side mounted scope, your range is going to be a bit limited.
Check out the states you are interested in, parks and wildlife should have the regulation or at least a link to find the info you require.

M1 Garands are legal in any state that allows the use of semi-automatic rifles (Some states only allow Bolt Action Rifles)
NOTE* Some States limit magazine capacity to 5 or less rounds......

Some states are restricted to shotguns only due to population density. If you don't exclude those states, then you other issue is that MANY states will not allow you to hunt with a rifle that holds more than 5 rounds. In fact i don't know of any. There may be a device that can be installe that will limit your Garrand to those five rounds. Check with Brownells.

Good luck

You can get a modified clip for the garand that holds 5 shells so it will be legal anywhere for hunting. I am afraid to take mine out of the armory any more as I saw what they are selling for now, ditto for the HK 91. I hate it; you buy an inexpensive rifle and then they become too valuable to shoot.

Almost any that allow hunting, some don't allow more than 5 round sin a hunting rifle though. So, you have to buy some after-market 5 round clips to pass that... in most places you shouldn't have a problem.

It all depends on the game. Most states have a minimum cartridge size for certain game.
