Quote, "Did you know Jesus taught about hell many times as a LITERAL place of excruciating agony for all eternity...and He doesn't want ANYONE to go there."
Reading this standard Fundy declaration, without giving it a thought I remembered years ago in Bavaria, when I was a student in Munich. Ten miles north of the city is Dachau, the first of the German Nazi concentration camps. For reasons I will not explain here, on my first of a dozen visits during my Munich years, the director of the remains of the camp gave me a tour. Next to the ovens there was a marked gas chamber (marked in German). The director was quick to assure me that, yes, the gas chamber was there but IT WAS NEVER USED. I had done my research, I knew it had been put to daily use by the Germans. Why else would it have been there? So, Jesus has a 'place of excruciating agony for all eternity,' but he doesn't want anyone to go there. Why, then, does he have it? Because he loves us so much perhaps? Some god...'excruciating agony'? Christianity, eh?

Actually, the hellfire doctrine is unscriptural.
Sheol, Hades. Tartarus, and in some versions the lake of fire was mistranslated to the word hell, and the word hellfire.
Why?
That's a lengthy answer for this question, so next time.
How do we know this?
Because the older, more original translations are still with us.
How can a God of Love burn someone for eternity?
Hellfire doctrine is a contradictory church doctrine.
It conflicts with scripture.

So you feel that anyone who is not a Christian gets tortured eternally after death?
No offense, but are you really listening to yourself?
If that's true, then God will be sadistically torturing the vast majority of the Earth's population.

I would respectfully suggest that instead of repeating what you have been taught, you try finding out the truth for yourself. If what you say is true, and Jesus paid the price for your sins then He also should be spending eternity in fires of hell.

Okay, lets turn it around. Why are YOU trying to scare someone that doesn't believe? Not only are you wasting your time, and theirs, but you also fill the other person with resentment. Jesus was a Jewish Rabbi, and in the Jewish religion, hell doesn't exist, so why would he teach about that?

By the Hairy Toes of the Great Horned Father, I am so sick to utter death of this kind of preaching. Can't you get it through your head that people are not interested in this kind of thing? Your punishment myths are even more meaningless to me than your tormented savior figure.
Preach to each other if you want.
As far as I'm concerned, Go. Away.
