The Penteteuch suggests it was Moses.
Ex.17:14; 24:4-8; 34:27; Num. 33:1-2; Deut. 31:9-22.
The Pentateuch as a whole was written between the Exodus and the death of Moses (Deut. 34). The Exodus was variously dated, with 1445 B.C. as the earliest date. If this date is assumed, the death of Moses would fall around 1400 B.C. Genesis was thus produced sometime in the late fifteenth century B.C., several centuries after the patriarchs whose lives it describes.
Since it isn't known when the world was created, there is no way of knowing how many years lapsed between the two.

I feel that Exodus 34:27 is when God commanded Moses to write the books of the law.
Moses was 120 when he died per Duet 34:7. So I guess what you need to find out is how much time passes between Exodus 34 and Duet 34.

Author: The Book of Genesis does not specifically name its author. Traditionally, the author has always assumed to have been Moses. There is no conclusive reason to deny the Mosaic authorship of Genesis.
Date of Writing: The Book of Genesis does not state when it was written. The date of authorship is likely between 1440 and 1400 B.C. after Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt.

It was written by Jewish religious writers after the Babylonian exile.
This sacred history was formed within the bosom of early Israel, guided by the spirit of God. It was sung beside the desert campfires; it was commemorated in the liturgical feasts, such as Passover; it was transmitted by word of mouth from generation to generation--until all was brought together in writing, about the sixth century B.C., when the literary formation of the Pentateuch came to an end.
Peace and blessings!

Story passed from Adam to Noah, genealogy told in Genesis 5 where the translations of the names miraculously spells out the gospel. Moses wrote the book.
Not sure how many years between but you can estimate it based on the genealogy. http://www.agapebiblestudy.com/charts/Generations%20Adam-Moses.htm

Moses is said to have written the Torah. Given by inspiration to him from God.
That is one of the reasons why the Jews uphold Moses so much.

Moses is given credit for the book of Genisis, but it isn't hard to realize that he could not have witnessed the creation. There is no scripture to verify any of this issue.

biblical scholars would tell you that the stories were passed on by oral tradition before being written down. i think there are 4 different sources scholars believe were used to comprise what we call the book of genesis. the Q source is one of them i think. you could try googling that.
