Magic's was a big deal mainly because of the whole aids thing, but the NBA had Michael to carry that torch so the effect wasn't nearly as big as Michael calling it quits in 1993 because of his father's death and what goes un-noticed is the gambling allegations that swirled during those eastern conference finals with the Knicks. It was a tough time for someone we all thought was immune to anything. That tragedy had a 2 year effect on the NBA until March 17 1995 when he came back against the Pacers and even then he wasn't the player he was. Although he was the best player in the league from 96-98, those of us who watched Jordan from 85-93 know how good he was. That tragedy changed Michael Jordan for better and worse. Far greater impact that anyone realizes.
