My husband is on a 6 month deployment on a ship. I have been having serious sanitation issues with my appartment complex. I have a small baby living here. It isnt healthy for him. Today was the last straw. I told them I wanted out of the lease. Do I need power of atourney before NAVY housing can help me out in an emergency situation? I have 30 days to leave. No Help... and nowhere to go.

Thanks. Any information will help. I have no idea where to start and I can't talk to my husband... he's on a ship.

you need to contact your Ombudsman. they can get word to the ship that your spouse needs to get you a POA.

speaking of which, Why didn't he provide you with one before he deployed?! unless he is on a submarine, he should have limited email access.

but even with all of that, there is no guarantee that you will be able to get into Base housing. you might not be able to be put at the top of the list, and even if they do allow it, there's no promises made that a unit willbe available.

You need to contact your husband's supervisr ASAP. They can get you going faster than if you try to do this yourself. I'm not sure why your husband did not get you a POA. Everyone is going to want a POA even housing, emergency or not. That's why you need to go through your husband's work first so they can help you. I can almost guarantee that you will not get into housing immediately. there is almost always a wait period of anywhere for 30 days to 12 months. But they will help you find another apartment if housing is unavailable. they aren't going to bump someone off the housing list that has been waiting.

In your case I would definately seek councel. Talk to an attorney today. You could possibly collect damages. Any jury or judge would be simpithetic towards you and your infant. The fact that your husband is in the military is a big plus as well. Don't wait another day get in touch with a lawyer NOW!!!

contact the fsg or the ombudsman for your hubby's ship. You can call housing and fill out the paper work if you do have a poa. Try talking to them and explain the situation. You can email your hubby. The ombudsman is there for you when hubby's are away. She will be able to contact the higher ranks if needed.

When I was in the Marines one of my Gunnery Sergeants (E-7) put in for a hardship discharge before his 20 Years was up for the same reason. His family had to vacate the 1st Marine Divisions dependent housing when he was sent to Okinawa to do a 13 month tour with the 3rd Marine Division where you cannot bring your family. He didn't know where his family was, on the street for all he knew.

Moral of story: If the military wanted you to have a family, they would of issued you one, otherwise tough !

Do you live near a Naval Base? Talk to the Housing Office or the JAG (legal office) on base and they can help you!
