I am running windows vista and I have a file that is corrupted. McAfee is telling me that it has detected a buffer overflow in location C:\Windows\System32\DIIHost.exe The file that I'm trying to delete is in :
C:\Users\John and Amanda\Desktop\Video
When I try to delete it says that it can't because the file is open in another program and it is not. I've tried Task Manager, deleting it in DOS mode and nothing works. Could someone please walk me through how I should be trying to delete it in DOS mode.

When I say walk me through, I mean step by step and based on the file information I've provided, show me exactly what to type. I'm a newbie. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you

Step 1: Locate the name of the file that is causing your problems.

Step 2: Decide if you want to copy, move or delete the file.

Step 3. Choose a destination for moving the file, or a new file name for the rename option (this option won't appear if you are deleting a file).

Click OK to confirm you want to process. The nice thing is that the program doesn't make you reboot straight away. It's a good idea to reboot ASAP, but if you are in the middle of something and want to wait, the program will simply run next time you start Windows.

If the file reappears again (check its creation date to ensure it is being recreated) and you can't make it budge, you may have trouble with spyware or a virus on your system (don't overlook the possibility it may also be an important system file). In this case you should get a good spyware removal program to scan your system.

if your Windows Vista and computer console are still under warranty, call the tech support hotline. I recommend this because if you own the computer/software after a while, it will cost you $20-$120 just to have them tell you something you probably could have found out. Take full advantage of this service that your manufacturer.

another thing is your DLLHost.exe is a Dynamic Library executable file, so chances are you're using that file while you have your computer turned on. And, you're probably not in the best hands with McAfee...It probably detected the corruption because there's probably something that's attached itself to it...may be a virus, may not be a virus.

Download the program called "Unlocker" It's free and it will help with problems like this. It can free the lock on the file or attempt to delete the file for you automatically.
