gradually our 2 year old female cat has become scared to eat her dinner as her brother started pushing her out of the way. he eats a bite of his dinner then starts on hers. we feed them in separate rooms but she's too nervous and is constantly on the lookout to see if he's waiting to pounce. we can't shut them in rooms as they cry for each other. she needs so much coaxing into eating and we literally have to act as a barrier and eject him from the vicinity. this is getting tiresome...they're 2 now! i understand there is a natural pecking order and she does stand up to him in other situations but she is very fussy about food and seems to have made an issue out of it. he is a lovely cat, and very cuddly, its just this one aspect of his personality that makes him dominate her where food is concerned. he gets more than enough and we don't think thats the issue. please help!

You might want to go to http://www.spiritessence.com and look into using flower essences on the bully cat. Dr. Hovfe has a concoction called "Bully Remedy".

The essences are easy to use and inexpensive so I think it would be worth a try. When I use the essences I shake the bottle well and put three or four drops on the fur between the cat's ears. Use it intensely for ten days to see if it helps.

Feed them at the same time, but facing away from each other so they can't see each other. Spread his food out over a plate so he has to take more time eating it. When we got new cats in, nobody ate facing each other, it only caused problems.

I'd put food down on opposite sides of the kitchen so the greedy ones wouldn't be tempted to leave their plate and loose out - they stayed put.

You CAN also just feed her in the bathroom with a closed door for 10 minutes, and him in the kitchen. When you let her out, take her food up so he can't eat it.

Or you can feed her on the counter if she's comfortable up there and stand guard between her and him, with his food on the floor. So these are several options.
