You really need to get a new mattress if you can feel The springs, the bed is no longer supporting your back. If that's not affordable the 4in. memory foam would be the best because you need as much cushioning as possible.

I had a feather bed for a few years and it became bunched up in spots. I bought it at bed bath and beyond. What I would try if I was you, is a memory foam pillow and see how comfortable that is in comparison to a feather pillow then move up to a whole bed topper since they are more of an investment.

Like ANY mattress configuration, some love memory foam and others hate it . . only YOU can make that determination.

One relatively frugal strategy is to replace your present mattress with another configuration. Place a 1/4" thick Masonite wood panel (pegboard is OK) over your present boxspring for more pushback support. Then place a 3" topper over a 5" polyurethane base.

If memory foam doesn't work out, try talalay latex with a wool fleece pad.
