Not to accuse Americans but it wonder me do they really need huge bag on their backs. I have noticed they were wearing in Edinburgh today.

You are a bit off on that one. I traveled to Australia and New Zealand and live in Canada. I see lots of English with big backpacks. It's a youth thing, and has to do with seeing the world. And English don't use it where you are because they are close to home. You don't need one because everything is probably in your car.

I love my backpack and I wear it to work. The backpack has become the new briefcase in America. Why do we travel with it? I guess because it makes us feel secure. And it's familiar. Most of us never leave home without it in the States so leaving the hotel in Scotland feels very similar.

PS - I love Edinburgh : )

I had a huge backpack when I was travelling round the world and I'm from Scotland.
