Basic principle of Hinduism is God becomes Universe..and we are nothing but divine spark of him. God can be realised here in this birth now...before death.
That is the beauty of Hinduism that it does not fix a dogma on its followers..rather it presents different ways as per mental set-up of different people.
Those who are more logic based go for Gyan Yoga
Those who are more emotional go for Bhakti Yoga
Those who work through body go for Hattha and Raja Yoga
Those who are equally in heart and mind go for Karma
Those who wish to solve the mysteries of universe faster go for Tantra
All paths are equally important and they would be selected by the mind-set of a person.
Most of the people chose Bhakti, as it is quite effective in Kaliyuga, a little longer path but with no dangers at least in the beginning
All paths are my paths..

A VERY WARM NAMASTE, dear lakshmiji. There is no Code or single Holy book of Hindus. But a close study of all religious texts reveals that the underlying principles are the same in all the texts. I am attempting to summarise them as per my limited knowledge and experience. Forgive me if you do not find them in order.
1. The Universe is material manifestation of God who is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent.
2. God is power. It has no name or form. You can chose a name and form you like and it does not matter. The intelligent God knows when you address him.
3. God is truth, love, forgiveness, and complete acceptance. So you must also be true, love all the universe, forgive all who do something against you and accept everyone as he/she is.
4. Do your duty to the best of your ability with truth and without bothering about the results.
5. Remember you are like a tourist to this body and earth. Do all work without attachment.
6. By following all these you will return from where you have come i.e. to God.

Dear Lakshmi
Any path which has been most effective for ma may not be so for you or for that mater other person too.
Each individual has a choice of going the path he/she wants. This wide choice is NOT offered by any other religion.
Luv, Compassion, No Violence, Discipline of Mind, Body n soul, Due consideration and respect for other religions, One ness of human beings - These are just a few outstanding features of this oldest Religion.
Our kathas- folklores, festivals, celebrations - everything is unique and full of life - with an established theory and truth behind.
I may go on n on but this subject would never end ...........so. just decide n choose your path , follow it religiously and there I see the attainment of the Truth - The Ultimate

It is an unique religion in the sense it is more a way(s) of life evolved over many millenniums.
Here God is not completely separated from self. When you believe that God is omnipresent you will understand there is an element of God in everyone/thing.When you say omnipresent there can be only one God who is all pervasive and inclusive.
That is why God is seen in many forms. It is also the reason why a Hindu accepts and even offer prayers to Gods of other religion.
This broadmindedness is born out of clear understanding and reasoning.
While other religions have their vision from a few angles,Hinduism has a 360 degree vision, because it is an evolved religion rather than formed or formulated with some ideology.

There is only one thing that can solve all the problems.
Yasya devai parabhaktir yathaa devai tathaa guruh.
Only association and divotional surrender to a true saint can lead to the path of God realisation. What we are doing today is only passing time, which will actually mean wasting time.
I have seen the effect of this most simple path. I know I am lucky. I wish you the Godsent luck, in being able to meet a true saint.

Basic principles for a hindu is "Every individual should do their duty as he is. That is one individual is father as well as son as also husband, emplyoyee etc.... He is dutybound to what he is. Even a thief follos the duties of thief will go to moksha.
Everyone has a space in this world.
Actually DHARMA is the true meaning of Religion.
But now Pantha/ paths is understood as religion and questions are asked on Hindu. As Hindu is a way of life.

Friend,
The VEDAS are the foundation for Hinduism .
These Vedas contain the Knowledge that is knowable by all and applicable at all times ,in all places. They are eternal truths.
!.The universe is there because of Leela of Brahman or Paranjyoti or Paraasaklti or Aadi Shakti.( all are one ,differently called ,that is all )
2.There is only one Brahman or LIGHT and people call it by different names.
3.Know that what ever exists in universe ,animate or inanimate or any other ,it is nothing BUT THAT BRAHMAN.The level of manifestation may be different in different things.
4.The world is one family and HE is the Father ,Mother and all.
5.He,the Brahman resides in all and giudes all.If you ignore His guidance it is upto you.You will have to reap the fruits ,for the seeds you have sown.
5.All your actions ,good and bad will have their reactions and you have to face and experience them.
6.For your happiness and miseries you alone are responsible.
7.There is NO descrimination that only man,or Brahman or a pundit etc should alone try to reach and realise HIM.All.Cjhildren,Women,Men everything in UNIVERSE is free to SEEK AND REALISE HIM.
*.Respect your Teacher (Guru or Aachaarya).Respect yoyr Father and Mother, respect the Guests that come to your house.Do not hate any body.
Speak TRUTH always.
Do good always as said in scriptures.
Do not hurt any body or any animal or any thing physically or verbally.
The Brahman is embodiment of compassion,Love and kindness.Whatever you are, whoever you are, whereever you are HE loves you and all equally.
Protect Dharma...Dhrama protects you.
These are some basic things in the Great Sanatana Dharam, way of Living called HINDUISM.

3."Sarva Dharma Sama Bava" : Respect to all religions.
These basic principles guide us and help us to think others also as self. See God's image in everything. Realises the importance and principle of Live and let live. You have beautiflly put the question . Thank u for that. "Namasthe"

Hinduism is meant to reveal one great truth. "Hinsa dur karo"(means do not trouble others) Hence a real Hindu is supposed to be compassionate and love all as his own soul. This is the fundamental teaching of hinduism. Love all, serve all; Help ever, hurt never-these are all basics of hinduism. Shri Krishna in "Bagawat Gita" says "Nirdeshya sarva butanam"(means "never hate any soul in the world)
