You can wear down your gumline and need to have it "filled." it's different than a cavity, but hurts like one. I did this because I brushed too much. I had to have dental work and my dentist told me to only brush away from the gum and to not use baking soda toothpaste. He also said an electric toothbrush is okay, and switched me to Sensodyne. The tongue should be fine.

BTW, if you floss and actually smell what is on that floss, you'll realize you can brush forever and nothing is going to take that away. I brush 3-5 times per day and floss 1-3 times per day and that floss junk still stinks. I don't think you can have 100% fresh breath without flossing.

brushing will not take the place of flossing. some of the bad breath could be coming from in between the teeth and you CAN'T get to it with a brush. brushing about three times a day is good. just don't brush to hard cause you don't want to damage the enamel or irritate your gums.

it is never a bad thing to brush your teeth ...in fact i bet dentists love you!...just make sure your toothbrush bristles arent too firm because that can make your gums sore
