You need to make sure to be biting down hard on the cotton. I would use a washcloth and keep firm pressure on it for several minutes. Do not keep rinsing. You could try wetting a tea bag and biting on that. The tannic acid in the tea is what was used to tan hides years ago. It will help the blood stop. You need to be sure to lay down. Keep your head slightly elevated. Try not to be excited because that only makes the blood flow faster. Try to relax and stay calm.

Bite on a wet tea bag for 30 minutes. Try just laying on the couch and not moving very much. As long as the extraction site isn't "gushing" you should be ok. You'll still bleed for a day or two. Nothing to worry about for now. If the site is gushing after another couple of hours, you'll want to call the dentist who extracted that tooth. There should be an after hours number you can call or just look up his/her name in the phone book.

HELLO,
OOZING WITH REDDISH FLUID FROM AN EXTRACTION SITE IS NOT LIKE BLEEDING.
THE OOZING FLUIDS WILL HAVE A HINT OF RED BLOOD, BUT IT'S A LOT LESS THAN ACTUAL ACTIVE BLEEDING AFTER A TOOTH WAS PULLED.
MAINTAIN BITING PRESSURE ON GAUZE OR COTTON BALLS FOR 30 MINUTES WITHOUT REMOVING TO CHECK IT OUT.
TAKE A MOIST, COLD TEA BAG AND PLACE IT OVER THE EXTRACTION SITE FOR15-20 MINUTES. THIS TOO WILL HELP WITH THE OOZING.
DO NOT TAKE ANY ASPIRIN PRODUCT BECAUSE THIS IS A BLOOD-THINNER AND YOUR BLOOD WON'T CLOT PROPERLY.

It really depends on which tooth was extracted. There are different arteries that supply to different parts of the mouth. It could possibly be that an artery was punctured. Even so, it WILL heal... assuming you do not have any blood clotting disorders (such as hemophillia or Von Willebrand's). However, if you feel dizzy, lightheaded, or cold, I would advise you see a physician immediately.
