Could you tell me where you have been? And what sort of places you'd like to see? Also...how long do you have?

This is going to be a long post as I'll try and give you a lot of ideas...

Firstly, there is a lot to see in Brisbane itself (events markets etc.) I'd assume you've seen the few major city sights we have to offer, but check out www.ourbrisbane.com.au to see if there are any special events on when you are travelling (Riverfestival is our biggest celebration, 31st Aug-9Sept...includes lots of activites and fireworks).

Islands - as mentioned by lots of ppl we have a bay of islands nearby (Fraser, Moreton and Stradebroke are the big ones).

Beaches - Both up (Sunshine Coast) and down (Gold Coast). Each have their own notable beaches and minor attractions. Gold Coast also has a variety of theme parks, even if they aren't your thing, Dreamworld has soem brand new baby tiger cubs and Seaworld has polar bears and a new shark exhibit.

Mountains - The area to the west of the Gold Coast is known as the Gold Coast Hinterland (about an hour south of Brisbane). In this area is Mt Tambourine, a small town known for its markets and views. There are also rainforests and waterfalls contain in the large areas of National Park. Also includes the Natural Arch/Bridge. The area could be explored in one or many days, various accomodation is available.

Then, you have the option of getting away from Brisbane itself.

South - 1.5 hours south of Brisbane, you'll reach the NSW-QLD border. This is where the coast stops being the Gold Coast and becomes the NSW North Coast. This region includes the famous Byron Bay (markets, laid back lifestyle and the lighthouse) but there are also a number of beaches and towns.

West - if you travel approx 2 hours west of Brisbane, you can see Toowoomba, also known as the Garden City, during Springtime (i.e. the next few months) the town is famous for its flower displays and festival.

If you'd like any more info on any of the above, please let me know. Also, if you've done them all and need me to give more ideas let me know too :D

I went to Brisbane 4 years running each spending 10 days. I would really suggest Morton Island. Short boat ride out of Brisbane and an amazing place. A range of accommodation too.

Wild dolphins come in every night that you can feed. Sand Tobogganing 150-foot high sand hills, a National park, Snorkeling the Wrecks, endless activities for the whole family. Never been too busy the times I went to. You would love it.

You just gotta go to Fraser Island,it's an amazing place. Also Bribie Island,Go swimming on the east side of the island, and then go over to the west side and have a bbq. If you get a chance go to Australia Zoo,set up by Steve Irwin It's a fabulous place and you can get right up and touch and feed the kangaroos. When you are in Brisbane,go to the lagoon down by the river,it's great city and folk are so friendly, enjoy it.

What's "all the usual things"? I found Brisbane a really good base to work...and party...but the best times were weekends away to Noosa and to Fraser Island.
